This is going to be a factor attracting and retaining pilots, and is a threat to the health of AA. Right now the attraction is attrition, however, that will taper. Then what? Attrition slows, growth slows and stagnation on the pilot list.
The only thing after retirement to prevent pilot stagnation is growth. Ever since the LUS/LAA merger, it's been shrinkage and retreating from markets with the only growth being codeshare agreements-so much so that the government got involved and broke up the North East Agreement between JB and AA. AA appealed, JB moved on to better things, but JB kept the shuttle and BOS flying.
Unless there is a radical change in leadership, AA has nothing but contraction in its future.
Something to think about for newcomers.
As for old-timers like me; Just need the paychecks to clear for a handful more years.
