The DCA APA reps put out a poll and the results just came back yesterday. It was in a blast mail to DCA pilots, but the numbers are interesting. Only %50 of the base participated in the poll. It went %48 APA %37 ALPA %14 don't care(a 31 vote diffrence, 39 voted did not care). What I find more interesting is they broke it down by 3rds of the senoirty list and the TOP 1/3 really wanted APA while the bottom really wanted ALPA. Seeing how the top 1/3 or this company will be gone within 5 years, the majority of this company will want ALPA or not care. Other interesting numbers came from the split in 73 vs 320 most 73 wanted APA (mostly legacy AA) and split 50/50 on the bus (mostly legacy USairway).

The same poll was conducted in PHL. The pilots voted in favor of ALPA, with similar trends and participation.

PHL Poll results:

To the question “Do you want to be Represented by ALPA?”

584 Pilots answered the poll (52% participation)

271 answered No

313 answered Yes

So, one could say that 19% of the people in DCA (50% of 37%) strongly support a move to ALPA.

Here we go again with the APA school of mathematics…

That’s not how voting works.

I think one would rather say that wayyyyy more than enough pilots are intetrested in ALPA that the original "merger commitee's" recommendation should have been followed. Unfortunately APA decided to vote on behalf of APA instead of the pilots that it allegedly represents.

APA is kind of like our US Government. Term limits on Senator's and Congressmen would greatly benefit our nation however you have to get said Congress to basically vote themselves out of a job so it will never happen.

APA will never support joining ALPA because it puts a lot of APA employees out of a job. Not really the pilot groups problem but that’s just the reality of the situation. Don’t need an APA benefits department when ALPA already has one, the same can be said about most APA departments.

DCA poll (50% response rate), PHL poll (52% response rate)

This means that half of the people who received the survey DON'T CARE enough to opine. This is not the same as polling 50% of a group and reporting the results.
