I mean it was just an example ffs lol

They could buy a Mercedes that drives itself too if that floats their boat. The Corolla is just one of the cheapest and most reliable cars that accept comma.ai hardware.

Mainline buys Caymans regional buys Miatas

Have been commuting for almost three years to New York out of ORF. My biggest complaint is the flights to New York change every month and it always seems that I get done right when the flight back to ORF is pushing off the gate. RIC is pretty useless, on the american side they don’t service JFK, and I tend to fly mostly out of JFK. Loads are either wide open or completely full. I have had to fly to DCA and RDU a lot and rent a car in order to get home. I am honeslty over the commute and can’t wait to be based in DC. Driving doesn’t bother me, and when I am in my car I know I am getting home even if it takes 6 hours. (worst case scenario)

it was just parody. Over in the widget pilot forum there are hundreds of pages of the accolades of the miata. If I was putting weekly miles on a car I’d opt for a Corolla as well.

I would definitely consider being based in DCA if you live in ORF, mainly because you drive it in a pinch.

I can’t and will not comment about commuting to CLT, I haven’t dealt with that commute for quite a few years. It seems like those CLT flights are always full though…..
I used to commute out of ORF but at DL (pre-covid). I was NYC based, but we had a lot of mainline at DL to both LGA and JFK. Not sure if RIC is a realistic option, but if you would have to endure a bridge-tunnel to get to RIC that might be painful just to catch a flight.

+1 to the above. I will elaborate a little that if you would be commuting on RJ's to NYC, I would advise against that. It's doable, but as swakid8 said, the RJ's get kicked out of NY when weather turns bad, long before mainline does. Yuck.

I would also add that there are a metric-ton of commuters in ORF. It's not just Navy. Langley AFB is on the peninsula. It's probably one of the highest density commuter airports anywhere. If you have an option to drive to DC, I'd give that serious consideration.
