A lot is filmed in UT. If not deadset on Montana for some reason, the original poster could find quite affordable areas within a few hour's drive of SLC in more rural parts of northern UT, Southern Idaho, and SW Wyoming, similar to Montana's climate, lifestyle, and topography while being able to drive to work at Delta (SLC). AA also has a LOT of SLC commuters, by the way. It's probably enough to have a satellite base there.

Colorado, Washington, and Alaska aren't options for me. Lived in each one for years. I keep seeing Utah and frankly it is a viable option, which would mean Delta. But I'm with AA right now so the plan is to continue with AA, and if that changes in the future, Delta and SLC/ Seatac commuting or Southwest Denever would be viable options. I appreciate the input by everyone here but even to my own peril, I'm stuck on the living in Montana, maybe WY, UT if I absolutely had to.
The overwhelming message here is, commuting is a vile and wretched thing and the ease and QOL improvement for living in base is almost better than the pay available. I don't mean that sarcrastically or to discount what I'm being told. The mere idea of missing flights or being late/ having to call into work even now sets me on edge. If I can't make these opportunities that are available at the legacies work, then I may in fact look to transition to Connie or somewhere like that. I do appreciate the marital concerns as well but we lived together three years the first seven years of our marriage. I've been home 72 days since i started the job in January of this year. Being gone 18 days a month, home 12? Yawn. Wake me if it gets interesting. Besides, when I'm home I cramp her and her boyfriends lifestyle (this is also a joke).

Where was the filing location? Towards anaconda or the opposite direction? Since we are on Montana movies, Broken Arrow end scenes were all shot between Lewistown and Denton. I was In 8th grade but got to play Christian Slaters foot in a action scene. Also I was Taller than John at 14, but his jet was sweet ass sweet.

Hello all. I'm a new hire with a class date next month (November). I dont care what I fly or what base I'm in. The plan was, choose the aircraft and base that would allow me to build seniority the fastest. Upgrade life baby. I'm moving to Montana at the end of the year and this will be my first time commuting (I'm new to that part of the industry). Wondering if there's anyone else in Montana doing it already that would be willing to chat.
We haven't picked out the location but we're trying to put ourselves within 2 hours of the busier airports available on the west side of the state. Again, thanks in advance.

I'm aware. Having lived in similar environments frankly I thought it went without saying. Just like when a storms inbound you may be commuting a few days earlier else you won't be making it that week.

Don’t.
I moved out of Montana because I couldn’t stand commuting out of there anymore, and I’m originally from there.
I’m not trying to pocket watch you, but I will tell you, BZN is the busiest airport in MT, so it’s probably your best bet.
Good luck buying a house ANYWHERE NEAR there, though, Californians have driven prices up because they like to move to Bozeman after watching 2 episodes of Yellowstone. Especially on first year pay at American, there’s absolutely no way, unless you have over-$100k saved to put down or can phone a friend for that kind of cash. This place has become a playground for millionaires. It’ll just be a larger Jackson Holr by 2030.
Helena and Great Falls, are absolutely atrociously miserable in the Winter.
Missoula is doable, but there’s not a ton of flights - and it is also, a “I just watched Yellowstone and had to move here” hotspot. Housing is slim there as well.
Stay away from Billings. It’s the worst city in the state. However, there are a lot of commuters - Rocky Mountain College Graduates - that will have to squander with for the jumpseat.
OP I do hope you can figure this out, but IMO, it would be wiser to wait a few years.
