I've known about this study from 2018 and a similar one from the military from years before that but always assumed the policies were in kept in place to keep a more professional look to the customers?

So far, yes.

Some captains are claiming that they’ll refuse a flight if all four FAs have beards, because how could an FA with a beard be allowed in the flight deck during a lav break? Yeah I can’t imagine that happening often/ever, but it’s out there.

Same for when a Fed shows up with a beard- gonna be interesting!
