Pardon my ignorance, but is DOS the same as ratification date?

It is referred to as "retimed". You can be brought in a full day early if they want.

Imagine bidding for a schedule, then the company deletes it and gives you something completely different. Whenever they want. And there is nothing that you can do about it.

You don't have much time at American. Resign and go somewhere else if you're not happy with the contract.

This item is probably overlooked by a lot of the group, but I don't think it's quite so dire.

For those keeping score, here's the actual language. I'm not sure it says what is being implied. Same segment, same sequence, but the marketing schedule changed. Ie: Tuesday's 0900 DFW-AUS moved from 0900 to 0830.

You will have plenty of notice, and if not can blow it off and go into RO (a whole other topic).

If you were supposed to start Tuesday you can't just be brought in to fly Monday's flight under this as it wouldn't be a "retime," since it's not the same segment and sequence.

That being said, it doesn't make it any less unfortunate. You will be paid for the inconvenience, which is not everyone's desire.

8. Retimes
a. A pilot whose first segment of a sequence has been retimed to have an earlier sign-in time will be sent an electronic communication informing them of the change.
(1) A pilot who has duty with the Company prior to the retimed segment will:

(a) acknowledge the electronic communication during the next duty with the Company;
  1. (b) report at the new sign-in time; and
  2. (c) receive pay, no credit for a reassignment premium of one half (50%) times the pilot’s hourly base pay rate for the retimed segment as flown.
(2) A pilot who does not have duty with the Company prior to the retimed segment may elect to acknowledge the electronic communication.

(a) If the pilot acknowledges the electronic communication prior to 2200 SBT two (2) days prior to the new sign-in time, the pilot will report at the new sign in time and receive pay, no credit for a reassignment premium of one half (50%) times the pilot’s hourly base pay rate for the retimed segment as flown.

(b) If the pilot does not acknowledge the electronic communication prior to 2200 SBT two days prior to the new sign-in time, the pilot will be removed from the sequence and placed into recovery obligation.

Geeze, this is not at all what it says. You actually think the company can require you come in a whole day early?? Retiming of flights is actually pretty rare and is more common on long haul flights. Sometimes, they will move the flight UP by a few MINUTES in case of airspace, FIR restrictions, or just high than normal headwinds. So if they move your UP the departure time by only 5 minutes, you get premium for that leg. If you don't want that, then take the RO. (which yes, is a whole different argument)

The Delta pilots are happy you guys didn’t negotiate a contract before them. That right there tells you it’s not industry leading. Congrats on tying them on pay rates to the penny. Still third amongst the big 3 once United ratifies, but at least it’s a close 3rd. That’s winning, American style.

Anyone knows when United's potential new contract will be ratified?

Don’t you have a 4 or a 5 day to go fly? Thanks for stopping by.
