Its a really long story. Suffice to say I should've just gone to medical school.

No driving desire to do WB minus the allure of WB reserve and not get called which is extremely appealing.
Wanting a DFW base. Not planning on moving ever again.
Got hired by AA and SWA already. SWA won because us military dudes are already brainwashed into thinking leadership actually cared about us and that company culture matters.
AA CJO is still on the table so I wouldn’t even have to interview.

Would you make the switch?
we have several guys in almost every class come from SW. AA doesn’t pretend to be some joking, cute, folksy airline. It’s a cold corporation and feckless union. That being said, it’s an incredibly good job and I’m glad to be here, cheers

Spot on, like the other two major legacies, it is an incredibly good job. Great pay. Good options to fly as you go up in seniority. Perfect? No, but who is? Potential of furlough? Sure. But you will have lots of income, a respected position and lots of stories to tell your grandkids and neighbors. And in the nursing home, you can fight each other with your canes about who had the better career.

Or just have stayed at your first carrier! Or even the second! despite the furlough

You were given a crap hand as were many of your 2000-era cohorts but I think there is something to learn from it, I know I did. And it did save me from a life of jumping around. So, thank you (I know that doesn't help)

What is wrong with me? I just think you have zero respect for the position you “flowed” into and did not earn. You never interviewed with American so you have no respect for the job offer handed out. You were just handed a class date for being pathetically lazy.

You hide behind the idea of “just wanting the best contract”, but they could offer 20 days off a month for $500 an hour and you’d still be complaining about how terrible American is to work for.

Obviously you’re just salty about your own career and blame AA. I personally have a dislike for you because you remind of some the Endeavor flows coming through Delta speaking with the same toxic attitude of “how terrible this place is compared to Endeavor” GMAFB.

Again, why don’t you go work for Southwest? You’d probably be the first NH from AA they’ve had in years and they’ll definitely question your sanity but why not make the move?

I'm married to a surgeon. I know shizz isn't great at SWA right now and we deal with a lot of BS with our jobs in general, but I don't envy a damn thing when it comes to doctors.

I'd retire at 2% from SWA presuming minimal growth- 3% no growth.

Less days off, PBS at AAL. I would need a fine fella around the age of 30-32 to give me an estimate of my retirement seniority at AAL dates for DFW holdings- CA & WB FO to really make a calculated decision.
A 32yo hired now would retire roughly in the 3-4% range, around 500-600 on the seniority list. Junior WB CA is around 3600. Junior WB CA DFW is around 2200. Junior DFW WB FO is around 10k. Junior 737 CA DFW was recently awarded to a Oct 2021 hire. Junior CA systemwide was Feb 2022.

Lack of schedule flexibility- from my knowledge.

Concerns of their balance sheet? The seniority movement is immaculate no doubt, but..... ^see above.

Why Zap is that your response? I appreciate the insight brother. Other fellas welcome to chime.
SW has worse hotels than AA. SW works harder at work than AA. You’ll get things like hot crew meals at work and with the multi-fleet options at DFW you’ll enjoy artificial seniority on the NB or the ability to bid WB.

Assuming the AIP at AA passes, you know what you’re getting. SW will see major improvements but I doubt we’ll be eating hot lasagna anytime soon in cruise. You’ll be eating semi-cold Chik-Fil-A off your lap when you’re 60 during your 3rd flight of the day.

I’m not leaving SW because it doesn’t make any sense but if I were in my 20’s or 30’s in this market…I’d be at a legacy yesterday.

PBS is a concern? Is that because of vacation conflicts? If so valid, but on balance the positives of PBS far outweigh the negatives. It’s phenomenal to build a custom schedule that you want. Takes a little seniority and learning the system, but when I line bidded in the past I never saw a line that matched what I wanted, and it took forever to sort through it all. With PBS you can select what you want to fly and when. AM/PM is not a thing here, neither are cadences of days on and off, it’s what ever you want to do, within some constraints and what seniority allows. 50% in your seat is pretty dang good QOL, sub 30% is awesome.

some will chime in saying I’m wrong, I can only tell you my experience.

Balance sheet…AA is paying off their debt much faster than anticipated.
