yes of course go AA. Herb Keller era, your answers would obviously be different with lots of SW Kool-Aid flowing back then.

Today, 2023, go AA.

that ugly chick who was last choice for Prom in High School just graduated med school and is a hot doctor

Like the old line. The nerd you made fun of in high school you now call boss.

Another thing about AA vs SWA. WB’s buy you artificial seniority. I’ll be 50% of the entire pilot group this fall, I will be 45% in my seat as a NB CA. At SWA I imagine if you are 50% of the pilot group, you are probably closer to 80-90% in your CA seat. Though SWA guys would have to chime in. This is due to many many senior pilots choosing WB FO and CA jobs over NB.

Or is it they think AA is paying less than the other majors? Or the grass is aways greener…

That’s Delta that has sub 1 year 75/76 Captain awards. However, as I understand it, their vacancy awards don’t take effect anywhere near as quickly as AA vacancy awards…so I believe most are over a year before they attend upgrade training. Delta pilots please correct me if that’s not accurate.

Upgrades at AA are well under 2 years(1y4mo I believe). United doesn’t upgrade until off probation, so 1y is the minimum. I don’t know if they can award it prior to that or not but it doesn’t take effect until off probation, same as AA. United 756 upgrades aren’t happening under a year. Most are around 50-60% on the seniority list from the last few vacancy awards I’ve seen.

The difference is that AA can force upgrades whereas United can’t. I don’t know if Delta can or not. There will not be unfilled Captain vacancies at AA due to that simple fact.

numerous 10, 15 year FO's, clearly Captain-upgradable, at AA. "Senior FO" is an official career track at AA. Guys are happy to get all weekends off and major holidays off while earning junior Captain income on senior FO QOL. One of the union senior honchos is a 60+ year old senior FO.

So not sure about forced upgrades....

I think the point being made was: There is language to involuntarily fill Captain seats, if the need arises. It hasn’t happened yet but that doesn’t mean it can’t.
