New guy with a Clt 737 vacancy bid, got hired 2 months ago. Will let you know if I make it

When do we expect prelim and official vacancy results?

I'd give it a month, minimum, but I think it's likely that you'll get it.

Prelim will probably come out 31 March or 7 April, can’t remember if they take two or three weeks to manipulate the results to their liking.

After a new hire can hold CLT as a base, how long on reserve before one can hold a line? Living in base in CLT, after one can hold a line, how is NB reserve as a bid strategy? Thanks, SW

I'm a half hour away from the parking lot and will probably continue to bid reserve for a while. It usually nets me a few extra days off.

Last block of 4 reserve days I didn't get called the first day, then did a three day trip that was a single DH back to CLT on the last day of reserve. Was able to self myself back to CLT on the 2nd day of that trip (3rd day of reserve) which gets me that last day off. Plenty of examples of doing that. It's not a bad way to live.

Let’s say you live OOB and the last day is a deadhead, can you switch that deadhead to your home airport if a direct AA flight is available?

Or do you fake the deadhead and commute home yourself?

The short version is yes you can, although it's dependent on available inventory on the flight in question. Take a look at the Compass Doc for DH for all of the complexities, including how to look all of this stuff up and book your own DH in CCI. Once you understand the mechanics it's pretty simple.

Super, thanks Tallflyer. Curious, how are the "normal" trips from CLT on whatever equipment you fly?

I'm on the Bus. Can't say I've done a 'normal' trip out of CLT as I'm bidding SC, but according to the union pairing dashboard, mostly 3-4 day trips. There are a smattering of 5 day trips as well but most of those are finishing with a trailing redeye so you get back to base very early on day 5 after a long layover somewhere out west.
