LEANING to leave AA for DAL
#211
When I was on SC reserve I parked my boat at my buddy's slip near Hollywood and lived aboard a few days and was easily available at all 3 airports in a reasonable time. Of course LCR I could do from home in south Brevard.
I think the Delta system where everyone is LCR until they aren't lulls them into a false sense of security. At least if you know you're SCR you can plan accordingly.

That's nice. At DL, we rarely see (what we call a deviate DH) opportunities where you can just head home a full day 'early', becuase our contract says the company must DH you to base on the first available flight. Or (new in this contract) if you are over the duty day limit after the last operating leg, you must have a full 10.5 hour buffer for rest. But, we can certainly "deviate" and take the 0600 flight home instead of the scheduling-booked 1300 flight. Again, just curious what other contracts do, does AA have a similar provisions?

And because it had been my single day off they also owed me a 30 hour break so the entire three day reserve block got wiped.

My favorite moment of SC was when I was on the hook for 3 days of reserve starting the next day at 1700, but got a PR redeye to the east coast that evening. It was too late to have a same day DH back after rest. So it became a three day trip but I no showed, went right back and was at the house only about 12 hours after leaving it.

Question, I'm always on the lookout for better ways to crack the nut... can you be forced into this type of reserve, or is it volunteer only? IOW, can a commuter get stuck with this? As a local, I might prefer this...

You can definitely be forced into this on Short Call or Long Call (w/ the proper notice). Sometimes lineholders can pick it up w/ a ballot as well, especially when it's a DH to City X and the LH lives in City X. Gets paid to DH while on their couch, operates the next morning to base, then commutes home that day for 2 days pay.
We can no show the deadhead and return to base (or home) earlier if you'd rather be home, you just lose the must ride status vs. may ride with a seat open.

At AAL - you can bid for a line or reserve. If bidding for reserve - you can bid for SC or LC. In most bid statuses/bases - SC is more junior than LC (but you'll see a lot of local senior pilots bidding SC because if living in base SC can be pretty sweet). So yes, if you're a junior commuter who's not senior enough to get LC, you can get stuck with SC for the month.
