LEANING to leave AA for DAL
#91
Yeah the idea of leaving a legacy seniority list,(especially AA which is going to have the best seniority movement by far) right now is a bad idea. It would have been a questionable idea 2-3 years ago. I talked a couple squadron buddies down from coming to Delta and that was when we were all hiring 2000 a year.
it would just be an incredibly risky move and will, at this point, cost you millions of dollars over the course of your career.
just get senior, move to a western base, bid WB, but whatever you do, stay put.

I think you’ve already answered your question with this statement. I would argue even in a perfect world, you’re “probably” easily 6 months to more likely a year from getting a class at Delta if they ever call, so the real question is “should I pass up 30 months of seniority at American to move to Delta,” and I honestly don’t think anyone would ever tell you that’s a good idea.

Currently have about 1.5 yrs at AA, LGA based bidding 20% on international side currently on 737 FO, upgrade time is currently 2.5 years on 737 while widebody FO in NYC on 777 is currently more senior around 4-5 years, I have 2500 pilots below me, I am about 15% up the way of seniority list already.
Got DELTA CJO a couple days ago and thinking of making the jump. Age wise currently low-30's so I have a 30+ year career ahead of me hopefully and NY is home and where I want to be based. Looking for prospectives pros/cons of either staying at AA or leaving for Delta.
Leaning towards making the jump to DL

OP was Feb 2, 2023. Back then I would have said, as a NY local guy with only 1.5 yrs at AA, that I'd probably run to DL. It's a MAJOR w/b hub for DL. It just isn't for AA.
It's July 2024. It's a COMPLETELY different calculus. 15% below me? I'd stay at AA and enjoy that career.

As bad (and it’s bad) as AA is, stay. Many have answered your concerns. Seniority is everything in this business!! The only thing I would be concerned about is a future AA BK, but even that seems unlikely. You have too many people under you and AA is retiring the most amount of old farts. Stay.
