I have to start out saying I don't know this is true but if it is, this is a worthwhile fight for APA and for all pilots not involved. Is it a worthwhile fight for those pilots involved? I'm glad I'm not one of those making that decision.

If your lawyers told you not to do a recorded interview, would you listen to them? I would. This is a high stakes blame game and they'll do anything they can to blame the pilots. I'd follow my lawyers' advice.

There's usually a tape recorder sitting on the table and the tape is later converted to a transcript. That's the way it's been done for the last 30 years.
In the end the government will do far less damage to these pilots career than the ignorance that gets passed off as good advice in the crew rooms and message boards.

I'm curious how you think that transcript of the interview is produced. Do you think there is a stenographer sitting in the room like in a court of law?

SPOILER ALERT
Where the FAA and NTSB don't want to harm the crew, the APA will insert themselves in the middle and cause trouble. When the FAA and NTSB have run out of non-punitive options and have to use subpoenas and enforcement the APA will tell you they were right about the government and now you need them more than ever. Just keep watching and this is how it'll all play out.

I'm not trying to give orders or write policy. I'm just saying that APA is looking for a fight where there didn't need to be one.

Any recordings in the past were destroyed after it was transcribed. What the FAA want to do here is keep the recordings on permanent record. That is unprecedented and APA is trying to stop it. Geez, not that hard to understand
