1400 ish pilots, no classes Jun, Jul, Aug. AA sees no need to hire 2000 due to aircraft delays and everybody else drawing down their hiring. Before there was a fear of missing out on the best candidates so they kept the hiring full throttle to match the others. Now that everybody else has throttled back AA can do the same. 1000 a year is more than enough to cover retirements alone and they are still doing more than that.

Those applying, TPIC and checkride failures are becoming an emphasis again. TPIC over additional type rating because the big concern at AA are the sub two year upgrades with people who have zero CA experience. The ~2 year upgrades are going to last for a while so the hiring team stacks packets with CA experience higher. The days of coasting in the right seat of a regional until a Legacy calls you are over with for now. Good luck.

But we also have a history of buying used airplanes from other carriers.

I get it...it is easy to be negative and pessamistic. And it is foolish to always be an optimist. But there is a happy place between the two. Those 737 Max10's will never be delivered, we all know that. But the fleets of Spirit and some of the other ULCC's and LCC's will likely be for sale before too long, so lots of airplanes will likely become available sooner rather than later.

Really tacky to dance on someone's grave. Even worse to do it before they're even in the ground. Growth projections are always pie in the sky. AA is still a great place to be, even if it stagnates, and that is simply due to retirements, which are guaranteed.
