Default Drop Advice

To avoid the risk of offending the peanut gallery on the Drops Only thread, I'll start this one up.

Live in CLT and the long term goal is Airbus and CLT. How would you play this drop for commuting purposes? Pretty sure I'll be in the top third of the class (age 44).

DCA/FO/320/I 15
DFW/FO/320/D 7
MIA/FO/320/I 1
LGA/FO/320/D 2

The MIA looks tempting for fun flying purposes, but I'm thinking ultimately my choices will be between DCA and DFW.

The order you listed is the best order for bids in my opinion.

MIA 320 isn't the same type of flying as the 73 and DCA is a hidden gem from what I'm told.

Just my 2 cents.

Being more senior in the class and getting 10 plus junior to you right off the bat in dca/320 could let you hold long call immediately vs having to sit short call and get a crashpad in the other bases.

Exact same boat as TF and 46. Interesting points. I was gunning for DFW, but this has me wondering.

Any of the international bid statuses will let you pick up out of base in Charlotte if you’re a line holder in your own base, could be useful

That's all, I appreciate the advice. Looks like DCA Bus /I it is.

To make sure I have this right: /I can pick up /I and /D trips, but /D can only pick up /D trips.

Any kind of proffering for trips out of base over RSV days?

If you want to fly trips in CLT while based in DCA on reserve, you can only get premium trips, which are assigned in seniority order, and out of base only gets awarded after all of the in base are exhausted. Typically 20-30 people in base are asking for premium trips, so not very likely to go to out of base anytime soon.

Can not pick up trips at all while on reserve unless awarded to you as premium. But don't worry...you will be senior some day.

And yes, I can fly as a D, D can not fly as an I. As a reserve, you really can't "pick up" anything, but you can be awarded it. Also, reserve can not move reserve days around after awarded, so there is no schedule flexibility on reserve at all. Welcome to mainline!

Is there a way for a line holder to pickup out of base trips before DOTC the day prior?

I’ve always been afraid to drop myself down too much without being guaranteed a way to pickup out of base trips.
