As a commuter myself, make sure you download the Staff Traveler app. If you can get LAX 320, there’s actually 17 flights a day between all carriers. Yes the 4 on AA are best bet but you have options. I know there is a heavy commuter presence between PHX and DFW.

I got MIA 320 in class. I’ll spend 3 days of short call after my OE. Then it’s DFW 320 starting OCT. Going to hang out there until I can hold a line in LAX or PHX.

Just bid the Bus anywhere. Good luck.

My class drop had only east coast bases to choose from, and I chose PHL. It wasn't nearly as bad of a commute compared to several of my classmates that were stuck with MIA. Their commuting experiences were miserable. YMMV.
Revisiting my question: 1 PHX in the drop which I will not be getting. Next up is 4x PHL which I will probably miss out on as well so then next up it's a choice between bidding MIA or DCA as my 3rd 320 option (before LGA as the last 320 one). Any thoughts on pros/cons between those two when commuting in from PHX? 3 flights vs 4 flights per day to MIA like you mentioned. Any thoughts on the differences between the two as far as the multiple airport stuff goes or other factors?

Thanks! Hopefully it won't be very long until I can get PHX regardless.

Default Question about NYC 737 (I) or (D)

Thank you so much for the information great stuff, live in Manhatten all NYC bases are equally distant. One last question, my current 135 job has 4-6 legs a day with min rest/max duty day at least 60-80% of the tour. How many legs should I expect on either I or D, 737 in NYC

Take this through the filter that I’m not based in NY and don’t fly the 737…but I’ve never seen 5 legs in a day, so probably 1-4. Assuming hiring continues, you will be senior very quickly. Looking at the list. Looks like 6 months to 50%, 1 year to 28%. Oh also, probably 2 years to hold CA (this will change when 67 happens) and our JR CA job doesn’t suck. The usual caveats apply. Congrats on living in our most JR base.

1-3 legs a day is the norm. Your seniority will be amazing. You will have the proverbial “worst day at AA is still better than your best day at the 135 op”

I'm afraid that I'm not much help with the other options, and where you'll fall in your class base bidding order. I just don't know. It's a crap shoot. As soon as you make a choice on day one there will be a schedule change that'll affect your commuting plan...the nature of the beast.

The optimistic thing is that you should be able to get to PHX within a vacancy bid or two.
