I know one ex-PSA guy, he is around 59-60. I can't think of any Allegheny, I think that would be a stretch.
Off the top of my head I don't know where to find anyone's DOH, but I'm guessing around '80-'81 would be the earliest DOH.

there are currently 3 pilots hired in 1979 still on the list according to alliedpilots. 1 retires this month, 1 in December, and the other not until 2023!! That means that person was hired at 21, a month after turning 21 actually, according to the list, crazy. That’s 44 years at a “major”, we may never see that again. I bet that person never thought 40 or 30 or hell 20 years ago they would retire #1 at American Airlines….

Depends on what pre merger airline he started at…not to mention the tons of early outs and medical outs that probably happened above him. My point is 40 + years ago he didn’t know he would retire #1 a AA, maybe he thought he would at PSA, or Piedmont, or Empire, or Reno….not sure where he was originally hired at(could have been AA but the most senior AA original hires seem to be 1984, so I am guessing he came from some other pre-merger airline) bc that info isn’t on the list.

You will see it again at least twice. I know of one guy that was 20 when hired. He may hit # 1. Another one was hired around 21 that will retire #50 something with 44 years of service.
Never count your chickens until they retire.

Good friend of mine was AF, Ozark, TWA. He was going to retire #7 with TWA at age 60. His plan was 747 alternating cities in Europe and the Middle East.
With the merger into AA, he was barely able to hold the left seat on the Mad Dog. A few months before retirement he was able to get CA on the 757, pretty much all domestic. Clearly a readjusted set of expectations.
