I don’t think recency is holding you back; when I interviewed at AA we had a USAF guy like you with very little if not zero in the past 12-24 months or so. I would say be patient; I personally never did any conferences because that’s not really my thing, but I know plenty who have and it did speed things up and help them. Just my 2 cents, good luck.

I will disagree. There are hundreds of qualified pilots that are bypassed for hiring each year because of a small error or omission on their application. A mistyped date that mistakenly shows a large gap in the employment history, or even something as simple as an incorrectly checked box. It is amazing how many people check "no" to "are you legally authorized to work in the United States". Or select "no" to "do you have a valid US Passport". Those are automatic disqualifiers.
Do not be patient, and go to the conference like you suggested. When you meet with them, they will pull your app. If it is flagged as there being something wrong with it, you will get a chance to fix it. As the wave has passed and hiring is slowing down, now is not the time to be patient. There are now hundreds of pilots applying for jobs at the legacys that were not qualified a few months ago, but are now.
Patience is not a virtue, it will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In the "old days", you are correct. The new demographic has certainly changed. The "ideal" candidate is considerably different now.

Hi everyone,
I'm in the same boat: I filled out my app last month, got an immediate invite for the PST, but have not heard anything since...
My background: Worked for a regionals years ago, then left aviation. Was hired as a DEC for a WO a year ago, enjoying being back in the game ;-)
For reference 7000TT, 5000 JET, 2500 JET PIC, 2 internal references.
Definitely looking out for the next recruiting event.... never done one, but might be a good time to start!

Hi guys,
I've completed each section of my application on pilots.aa.com. And I do not see a final submit button for the completed application, is there one? Its been about 3 weeks now and haven't heard anything back to take the online assesmnt. It also showing "draft" in the upper right hand corner now which I don't think was there before. It looks like they have just updated the portal to a new format in the last couple of days.
I'm currently working in Canada with 6500 hours, 1500PIC and 400PIC on the A320. Also is it common to pay one of the companies to do your APP review? The portal seems pretty straight forward so I've been hesitant to pay someone to do the review but maybe it is necessary.
I'm new to applying for US airlines so any help is appreciated
Thanks!
