Mind if I ask who the email was from? The previous email said it would be from an email other than “AA Pilot Recruitment”. Don’t want to miss it when it shows up in my inbox!

This is not necessarily a request from
“the company,” but a request from the director of pilot hiring (a fellow pilot) to ensure that we (the pilots) have a say in the pilot screening process. If one needs to “get paid” to do something that betters their own pilot group, then so be it. But they shouldn’t then complain when they aren’t happy with the quality or proficiency of the dude/gal sitting next to them.

Assuming half of new hire pilots comes from flow program and excluding friends & family (including military friends), minorities and politically correct fulfillments. I wonder how many candidates really gets screened by AA recruitment.

Im assuming it would be the total number of candidates minus flows. Or using your statement above as a reference, exactly half. I’d be shocked if there is some “secret process” that allows any OTS candidate to bypass the screening process….that would be a pretty egregious violation of all kinds of HR laws and liabilities.

I have no doubt all new hire are qualified pilots, but if recruitment especially select pilots based on referrals, race, gender or etc; how many 'the best of the best' really gets screened?

While I think flow is great for regional new hires, it has been doing a huge disservice to OTS folks. AA does not interview or screen anyone that woke for these regional flows. All it seems you need is a pulse to get hired on at one of these flowing regionals. Yet OTS folks have extreme screening requirements.. almost impossible to get a call even with 10 times the variety and value of qualifications.

The flow isn’t really great for new hires at the American wholly owned regionals. It’s not even a carrot at this point because the percentage of flows relative to the size of the wholly owned regionals makes it a non-factor. And honestly we’re seeing new-hires with 1500-2500 hours, plus military fixed wing and helo guys, and the occasional 91/135 or prior 121 experience. Covid paused a lot so it allowed pilots to build experience. The flow is silly in and of itself. It would be my wish that the legacies would resorb the 76 seat flying.

The flow agreement actually says they have to meet all of AA’s new hire requirements, and it says AA can change the new hire requirements.

If AA required 6,000TPIC for all new hires they would have to have 6,000TPIC to flow.

If AA said all new hires have to have a perfect training record, all the flow pilots would have to have a perfect training record to flow.

The agreement only exempts the requirement of a college degree, and an interview. Any other requirement AA places on new hires is also mandatory for flow pilots.
