Hopefully it’s a plan.
AAG is incredibly weak in the Northwest. We barely have directs from the East Coast to Seattle. We don’t have directs to Portland from the East Coast. AAG could feed a lot of those AK Air flights in PHL, EWR, BOS, ORD and BWI. That could get us a slice of some of their passengers before they get on Alaskan metal for their transcon flights.
Plus it might be a way for AAG to grow PACRIM traffic that needs to go to the Northwest of America.
Alaska could use an international long haul partner. Someone who doesn’t just go to Mexico like AK Air does.
Anything to not let Delta grow unchecked IMHO.

When Discount Dougic runs out of ideas on how to run an airline, he finds a better airline to buy to bring down to his level ... its worked for him since the America West days.
I thought he had exhausted the strategy but looks like the one trick pony might have one more in him.

That's funny cause one of the reasons Delta decided to divorce with AAG and build it's own hub is that they refused to abandon their code share with every other airline that came a calling. Assuming when they join Oneworld that some of this will be pared down. Current partners listed on their website:
