Default American Background Check

I know the standard background check is done after the CJO but what about individuals that check on the app that they have been arrested? Does HR start looking into your record prior to the interview? The reason I ask is because I have a juvenile record in the process of getting expunged and I would like to state on my app that it is expunged but it might be a few months before it’s officially expunged.

??, don’t see where that question is asked.

AA does not have a section to mark down for arrests on pilot credentials. You could reach out to [email protected] with questions. Either way, you can't be wrong with being honest and how you learned from it. Good luck.

I guess I should of been more specific. I assume there is a section on pilot credentials that asks if you have been convicted of a crime? I was convicted of a minor possession crime as a juvenile 22 years ago. I was just curious if anyone on here had any experience with this? Did it slow the application process down? Did HR look into said conviction prior to an interview? I want to be honest but at the same time I would like to state that it is expunged. The conviction will not be expunged until a few months after I apply to the airline.

I had two minor in possessions when I was younger. I don’t remember listing them on my app (it never asked) and it never came up in the interview or after the background check. If it had I would have answered honestly. Unless it’s a felony I wouldn’t sweat it.

No problem. No, there is no section on Pilot Credentials for AA asking about convictions. I assume if they want to know they'll ask you or give you the "Anything not on your app you want to tell us about?" opportunity to clear it up. I have buds at AA that had hiccups in the past and said it wasn't a major issue. They all are at AA now. You're on a good track. Expunged, issue well in the past, and you'll be up front about it so I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck.

I think it was a 10 year background check.

In the state I grew up in, Minor in Posession wasn't even a misdemeanor, it was a civil infraction (like a traffic ticket). Not a criminal offense, just punishable by fines, public service and/or classes, and of course.....FEES!

Wow surprised they don’t ask about a conviction. Good news though and I appreciate the info.

if your really worried, PM me. Not going to broadcast my troubled youth to the masses, but minor possession is nothing compared to my background and I still got to fly in military and got hired by majors. Honesty and what you learned.... can’t stress it enough.

your minor possession 22 years ago is a nothing-burger. I wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep over it

btw... I
