Not counting orders, widebodies as percent of fleet:

AA 13%
DL 17%
UN 25%

Orders (replacement + additional):
AA 25
DL 26
UN 100 (+100 options) (just placed)

Will AA & DL order more or will UN stay ahead? I do not know.

Do you really wanna go to an airline that’s putting half its eggs in the international basket and hiring for United next rather than retirements? UA is gonna be massive and one downturn is gonna be detrimental to their pilot group

AA/DL are hiring for retirements for now and not growth. Worst case a recession hits and they chop from the head instead of the toe with retirements and early outs

American Airlines used to do wide body international, and they were damn good at it. Most of us who have been in this industry a while remember AA DC-10, A300, and 767 Luxury Liners flying all over the world.

But then they were taken over by US Air. US Air was a hodgepodge domestic/regional airline conglomeration that was scared of wide body international and never more than dipped their toes in it. And that brought us the "American" of today, which is AA in name only, like a little boy wearing his dad's old shoes.

I think UA is a house of cards. Kirby is obsessed with sticking it to his rivals and former bosses at AA and he's in a race with them to outcompete on the "bigger is better" scale. Their overhead is already massive and I don't think they have the premium revenue to support it in the long run. Nevertheless they're over leveraging badly in this expansion and UAL has a long history of spending like drunken sailors until the day the music stops. The next time that place collapses it's gonna be ugly. I wouldn't want to be in the bottom 50% over there.

that’s right, United would never put an AA guy in charge of their outfit.

My understanding is about 100 of the UN wide body orders are planned for replacement of existing metal being retired. So, if they do not execute any options (which they likely will), they will stay at 25%. So, not 50% wide body.

This is a very astute observation, really big gamble on the future economy. They're taking delivery on roughly 300 aircraft in the next 2 years, highly dependent on the demand being there for domestic and then even more so international. Denver to Houston on a half full 78 can't be too profitable.

all my delta buddies say they same thing about delta code sharing away international flying and say they have the weakest JV scope.
