737 vs 320 for New Hire
#271
You make the same amount 1st year and you'll be awarded a Group 2 plane and will make Group2 money while enjoying a nice schedule. Plus if you play it right you can bid vacation with your Group 1 seniority and take it with you once you get your Bus Or Boeing reward.
If I had to do it over I'd do it the same way. 2 months of reserve was all I did. 1 month short call and the next Long Call.
And the transition from 190 to Bus is smooth.

There are more A321 deliveries next year than 737s. This year there was supposed to be more 737 deliveries. At my seniority of 5 years every base that has both planes I’d be more senior in the 737.
I’m not sure if we kept 737 staffing up for the planes we have parked/awaiting delivery or if the 737 staffing slipped to what we currently need.
I think you’d get faster seniority progression in the airbus because of the deliveries in 2020 but the 737 shouldn’t be far behind.

The 190 is the best kept secret. I bid it 4 years ago and I flew with great crews and only sat reserve for 2 months and had a pure commuting Line by 4 months. The turnover is fast so you'll move up seniority really quick.

6 month seat lock for new hires. First opportunity bid for group 2, you’ll more than likely get withheld but will be paid at that rate when the bid closes. Enjoy QOL of the 190 while getting paid as an FO on the 73 or 320.

Ok, so withheld meaning I'm stuck on the 190 and in PHL? How long can they withhold someone?

Unless you are withheld from moving to a base where you live or have a much easier commute, being withheld is generally advantageous.

The Airbus is just a totally better machine, for me. Flew the 737 for 23 years and 17000 hrs. Then the Airbus. Now kicking myself for not going to the bus far sooner. The quality of life is so much better on the Bus, especially the cooling and noise. Go to the bus and never look back.

No need to. I fly the equipment that gets me the best seniority and QOL. For my base (DCA) that’s the 737. And whatever I’m flying, I learn to love it. No doubt the Bus is more comfy, better cooling, etc... don’t matter to me, I ain’t on it. I’m sure I’d find a way to enjoy it if/when I fly it. 737 is a blast to fly, I know it well (4500+ hrs), reliable, old school, great performer, still very hands on... like an old Chevy truck. in short, everything I love in an airplane. Almost as much fun as the old -80. Flame away
