Default Training date flexibility question

Hey guys,

Based off my indoc class start date, I'm anticipating going to training around late Aug - early Sept. I'm a part time guard guy and have a mandatory two week training exercise the first two weeks of Sept (Green Flag) for a deployment next year which will create a conflict. Once we find out what aircraft we drop and what training dates will be associated with it, is the training dept flexible at all when it comes to a military obligation like this? I obviously don't want to screw over the company, or delay the start of my first year pay start date, but I also don't want to let my bros down and miss out on this deployment.

Thanks for any help or advice,

Hd

hawgdawg,

The most important thing right now is getting your senority date. I would recommend doing the training as soon as you can then worry about the mil stuff. You buds will understand.

Seniority is no longer determined by training date, it is hire date.

Once you are indoc complete you have a seniority number. They have been flexible with guys in my class with training dates.

But pay date (or whatever the term used) is determined by training completion date right?

Correct. It is the date of your originally scheduled training completion date (stays the same if you get pushed back due to the training schedule).

Well, that's interesting... what if it is pushed back for other reasons (e.g. mil leave as in HawgDawg's case)?

Be careful. One of the managers of training is Dave Fyfe. He will come into your indoc class and say If you don't get the aircraft/date you want to contact him that he has "the power of the pen" Not true. Not true.
He is old school AMR Corp.
Numerous FO's I've flown with asked him for changes and he either ignored them or said NO. All of the FO's told me that they saw the schedules for training. That he could have made easy changes.

Avoid Dave Fyfe.

Do not mess with FLT STD's they have the most power at AAL. Just do what and when they tell you.

Be careful.

APA tells us that AAL owns training. APA cannot help you.

Tell your squadron mates, you'll be there next year. Do not jeopardize losing even one months seniority.

EX: What if they say Oh, OK contact us when you return from MIL LEAVE, and as luck would have it, all classes filled, so instead of Mid August, you're now looking at Dec or later.

What if?

My experience even after being here since 99 is Don't even ask. You'll get a NO or worse.

Aside from all this, I've been a CA for just over 2 years here and loving it, except for the VNAV on the 737-800.

We will get work rules back in 2020 contract. Try to live in base.
Commuting is difficult and flights are full.

This would be a good time to get out of whatever military obligation you have. They're always preaching family, civilian job, military as a 3 legged stool. This is a huge event in your civilian life and you should be focusing on getting thru OE without distractions. Even better if you can consolidate first.
