Me interested in the SUPER 80? Nope. I'm e9 for life! Or until I can hold group 2 captain.

Not really. With the way it's been trending recently it wouldn't take much longer to hold g2 captain than it would g4 fo. I'd only do g4 fo if I could hold long call in PHL or NYC and I wasn't anywhere close to g2 captain.
Plus I hate flying at night and I like flying with my fav captain every trip.

A line holding G4 fo can make as much, or more than a reserve G2 ca, but on reserve the G2 ca pay is more.
The guy going to the 73 probably did it for the seniority. At the former LAA bases, the junior bus guys are taking a serious beating, as people transfer in from other bases. I went from 30% to near 50% over two bids in DFW, when the PHX migration happened.
And, as stated above, I get to fly with my favorite captain on every trip.
And FWIW, I'd go back to the 80 as a ca in a heart beat.

Just remember the walk around requires you to keep your oil can and rag handy to oil the piston rods and drive wheels.
Seriously, when the MD 80 came out it was advanced compared to what most had flown. Each generation's new technology is more advanced than the past.
When TWA got one of the first Connies (still piston driven, but a pressurized cabin), Howard Hughes and Jack Fry (the president), both accomplished pilots, had Orville Wright (of Kitty Hawk fame) fly it in the left seat for a half hour. He was thrilled with the advancement of technology in his lifetime!
