i transferred into Miami in November, had a line. Then short call Dec Jan. Line again in Feb. I think it depends on if the senior folks are bidding reserve or not.

I think another few months before it's a certainty. I was hired in May.

1. Are classes run every two weeks or twice a month?

2.Day one usually starts on Tuesday?

3. I’m guessing a combination of LAX, NY, MIA, 320,737, Dom, and Int. will be my options along with the possibility of PHX or another base. I really have no clue what to pick. I live in DFW and I’m trying to get a list of pros and cons. First is there a thread out there I’m not finding that has this information already? Any suggestions or advice on the commute, schedule, Crashpad, red eyes, or any thing else I should be considering would be greatly appreciated. (I am aware of the 320 not currently being co domiciled but the 73 seems to get you back to DFW a bit faster.)

4.Are most flows in the first class of the month or is it split evenly?

5. I assume picking your seat is based on age. What base and equipment goes senior or junior?

Thanks!
Bro..get ready for the ultimate enema exam. Coming from Envoy, driving to work, able to pick up OT Willy nilly, etc..your first year over here at AA will suck some serious ballz. I wondered many of the same things as you as I came over. Best commute? There isn't one! There is nothing to prepare you for commuting on Reserve after +/- 8 years of driving to work back at Eaglevoy. Especially if you'll be commuting on Short Call month after month. Everyone hired/flowed up until mid 2019 had it good. They did one month on short call and after that had lines or were on Long Call afterwards.

Since then? We hit a weird stagnation bubble because of the S80 guys rotating back on the Airbus. So it's been Short Call with no end in sight. Seniority moves quicker on the 737, but there's a reason for that. Most people avoid that plane. Case and point is most of the S80 pilots choosing the Airbus... you'll see in your class. The Airbus goes first. The downside for you, if you're on the more desirable plane is that you'll wait a few months longer for anythinanything.

Also, contrary to the hive mentality, LAX is NOT the easiest commute from DFW. Everybody and their grandma does that commute. Flights are usually full and jumpseats always reserved. Good luck when you're on reserve, don't know when you will have to fly out or come home. Plus EVERYTHING is super expensive in LA. A crappy sandwich will cost you $11 or more. Crashpads are in the $350 for the most basic and crappy. Forget hotels...way too expensive. Oh, and get ready to do almost nothing but redeyes out of LAX. Especially on reserve. The first few aren't bad. But they pile up, screw up your sleep pattern, and become exhausting.

Here's a typical AA LAX gem: Red eye from LAX to JFK. Land in NY at 7am. Depart that same day at 8pm. Reverse red eye to SFO. In your hotel by 1am local and depart the next day at 1300.

It's much worse than it reads. My suggestion? PHL. One airport to cover on the Airbus. Far fewer commuters from DFW. Little to no red eyes. VERY affordable city. Everything from food to hotels. I don't even need a Crashpad. I can pay $70 for a hotel stay out the door. As needed.

As for pay. On reserve, as a commuter you'll be getting paid guarantee and nothing more typically. So that comes out to about $3000 per paycheck. Plus or minus a couple hundred.

That's all I can think of for now. It's much better than Envoy..but the initial hit to QOL is real and you have to be prepared for it.

It's one of the best kept secrets. As someone who has been based in NY, LAX, and now PHL..I can vouch. It's the best option.

Looking for info on DCA. Bus vs 73? Time to hold the base, time to hold a line, and quality of flying?

Most people "forget" that PHL is an option. And/or think some commutes like DFW-LAX are better. It's not. For some reason PHL slips under the radar..but the flying is great. It's affordable, you only cover one airport, etc...

Crews are great, CPO office here is wonderful, trips are good, not too many redeye's (but there are some, if you want them), decent movement (albeit not as fast as NY), no co-domicile, and very affordable for commuters (inexpensive hotels and crashpads).
