AA Class Drops

It’s not that bad if there are several direct flights. If no, or few direct flights, 2 leg commutes suck twice as bad, plus with MIA being in the extreme SW corner of the US, your commute may be long depending where you live. I shared a crash pad with a dude from SFO. Ouch...
Also, before the new jumpseat system, the MIA commute was very stressful for a new guy. There were often 3-5 other pilots commuting, so if the flights were full (most are) you’re kinda screwed as a new hire. FLL and PBI are a saving grace though.
Hotels are expensive and you’re probably better off getting a crash pad close to the airport even if you are commuting to a line, unless you like to sleep in the crew room. I’ve done that a few times. It’s not bad, just no place to shower.
All that said, the MIA commute isn’t as bad as it used to be. I wouldn’t mind doing it again for group 4 or NB capt.

I'd say it's a great big depends, on the commute. I do DFW-MIA, and it pretty much sucks. There are lots of commuters, the flights are full, if you don't reserve a jumpseat eight days out, your chances of finding an open seat decrease quickly. I end up sitting long call in the crash pad most of the time, because getting there on 12 hours notice can be difficult to impossible. And AA is pretty much the only game in town between DFW-MIA, so no offline options.
If you like to roll the dice, there seem to be a bunch of people that like to reserve the jumpseat, and then never show up, or bother to cancel their reservation. Lots of people booking multiple jumpseats as well. Hopefully that comes to an end if they ever implement the web based jumpseat system, instead of the phone tree.

I think we may be commuting to different Miami's, I'm pretty sure mine is on the "other" south order of the country

Oops, I’m an idiot.... but I’m in CLT now, so MIA is just a LITTLE touch west...
And yeah, I can see DFW-MIA being a nightmare.
