Seniority?
I have been told two different things about seniority in regards to choosing equipment. The oldest guy chooses first, got it. Theoretically, say it is a 10 person class. The oldest guy picks the tenth line. Has he just given up seniority to the other 9 guys? One AA guy says yes and the other says no.

Then, by seniority, the class picks their aircraft/base/sim start date.

Unless things have changed since Jan2014, OVB is incorrect. In my newhire class, the oldest guy chose first, with the knowledge that if he wanted an aircraft or base that had a later projected completion date than another aircraft did, he’d be sacrificing seniority to get it.

OVB is correct. Age is the only thing that matters for seniority.
Picking your equipment and start date will however have an impact to a small extent when it comes to when you get your yearly raises. Each bid comes with an estimated training completion date. Year 2 through 12 raises are not based off your first day of indoc they are based off this estimated training completion date. Whatever that estimated finish date is (because not every person in indoc will finish sim training on the same day) will determine when you get your longevity raises. For example: Oldest person in class picks a LAX 737 with estimated finish date of August 1st(we will say that this is the latest finish date of all possible bids available). The youngest person in class is awarded LAX 737 with an estimated finish date of July 1st(let’s say that this is the earliest finish date available for all bids in the class). All this means is that the Oldest guy in class will be the most senior guy for purposes like future line/aircraft bidding but he/she will also be the last one of their class to start receiving year 2 pay. On the flip side, while the youngest person will always be junior to the everyone in class for bidding schedules and aircraft, they would be the first one in class to start making year 2,3,4 pay and so on until everyone reaches year 12 pay and there’s no more raises to be had. At that point your just junior to the older person in your class.
If you hear anything else from someone it’s nonsense. They do explain this in further detail during indoc. You actually have like 3 or 4 different seniority dates that they go over with you prior to equipment selections. But like I said before. OVB is correct. Age is the seniority determinator. Nothing else matters.

As a fellow white pilot, I was pretty put off by his last post in the closed thread. It’s attitudes like his that give us a bad name and have no place in this profession. I do understand this is not the place to air out grievances and will do better in the future. My apologies.
Have fun and be safe out there.
