I have been saying it for a while now. It was never going to be 900. If for no other reason then they can’t handle that many right now. I’d love to see 900 and in the future they better figur out a way to get 900 through. But that’s not happening this year.

Wait..........
383 thru 5 months
estimate 383 the next 5 months
That’s 766 which is 76 new hires a month avg through Oct. They should hire in Nov but may not in Dec so hopefully 76 more for a total of.....
842 for the year. You’re disappointed with that?

We are hiring 108 new guys in May. For the year they are on target for 850 if they take a breather in Dec. Seems to me like things are spooling up.

The new fleet count and block hours are relatively unchanged from the last update so I'm guessing the hiring over attrition is for ACD being implemented.
It was a needed thing, total BS having three day trips pay 10 hours even if you start late and end early. It's almost worse ending so early because your entire day is wiped as you sleep it away if you don't get into a car wreck on the drive home.
We should have an override for off normal flying, say a $30/hr override for flight time between 1am-6am HBT.
Time to start tweaking our lifestyle / work life over pay rates.

Training is getting more and more backed up it seems as is. Some guys are now waiting up to 6-7 weeks after indoc for training start dates.
I hope they can get things ramped up for everyones sake when the retirements really crank up. More people getting on below us the better! If not everyone will start getting withheld from bids forever and have terrible schedules when 800+ start retiring, creating a massive training bubble from hell that nobody is prepared to deal with.

Last year’s hires were 645. If the current trend holds, on track for 850 or a bit more for this year.
(Show your math - 383 hires /11 classes = 34.8 per class. 34.8 per class x 25 classes = 870 projected hires for the year.)
Regarding capacity ramping up, I agree with you. Retirements in five years will be above 900. Coupled with early outs and even modest growth, the training pipeline has to grow. No ifs ands or buts.
