American Summer Training Delays

A. What's a "new hirer"? Rhetorical...never mind.
B. "I am against the AA process that is allowing great people to go other places. As I said, many colleagues of mine, from all different regionals and the military, have gone on to UAL, FEDEX, DAL, SWA, even Spirit and Allegiant, while waiting to hear from AA. Some who were waiting for a class date no less."
+++++
If somebody goes to Spirit or Allegiant after a CJO, they're not "the sharpest marble in the bag", as my wife would say. There are Kenworth sized holes in that logic.
C. Some will go elsewhere no matter what AA does or how quickly they do it. It's called, "Work where you want to live, be with family. Etc."

We've heard it from a LOT of people going through initial training at AA...
"It's a pretty benign training environment." A different tone and tenor than "where they came from". You're going to hear, see and/or have the material presented to you 3 times. No trick questions, just pay attention and keep up. If you feel need more time, ask for it. Everyone here wants you to succeed. If something is going on at your house that you need to go take care of, just let the Training committee or the Fleet Capt. know.
Having said that (we say it at every new hire dinner at APA) there are a few who won't make it. The bottom line question here has always been, "Would I put my family on an airplane that guy is flying?"
You either prove you can fly or prove that you can't. Pretty simple, really. Most guys/gals have a pretty good experience going through initial at AA.

So is anybody gonna address the "dangerous SOPs" comment made on page 4?? That's a fairly powerful comment to go unaddressed.
AA has its issues but "dangerous SOPs" is not one of them. On the contrary I believe we run a very safe and disciplined flight deck, right up there with everyone else.

I received the video interview invite recently. Obviously have to earn the CJO first, but assuming I'm successful is there any recent info with summer training delays like the thread title says? Wondering if I should anticipate any kind of a pool developing assuming they keep interviewing but training slows down. Thanks!

I'm guessing some will say that the captain making the Before Takeoff PA is potentially a dangerous SOP.
Personally, I disagree, but the crackerjack lawyers in here will argue that the POTENTIAL is definitely there.

Class sizes are looking smaller this summer than early spring and last fall. The early May class was 21, the next May has 26 I believe. Early June has low 20's and the second June class size hasn't been determined yet. We are working through a training backlog so I assume this is the reason for the smaller classes. I have no info beyond the June info above but the trend is just over 20 per class and I would expect that through at least August. Don't know anything about a pool.

We had 3 guys in my squadron get hired by AA but we're awaiting a class date. The one who waited the longest was 14 months, the others 6-8. Never once did the company communicate with any of them, except through generic email not even giving expectations of maybe when they would start, if at all. All 3 ended up at our competitors who got them interviewed, hired, and in class WAY sooner. Even the one who lived in DFW decided not to come when they finally contacted him with a class. It just rubbed him the wrong way.
I felt like them, that it was completely unprofessional of AA at the time. I volunteer as a mentor so I know things are changing for the better as I talk to new hires. I bet it will get sorted out completely (we were undergoing merger, flows, recalls, SLI, etc at that time).
I think the other post was alluding to how we lost a lot of people when this was going on
