Can anyone elaborate on the time frame from...
1) Interview until notification of being offered a job?
2) When does the background check process start? Meaning do they do all the background check stuff after you get notified of the job offer, or before? If the background check takes place after being informed you got the job, how long does that normally take?
3) Then they offer you a class date I am assuming?
Sorry, just trying to understand the timeline of it all since I have a class date at another airline too.

Delta projecting hiring 700-1000 / yr through at least 2020 at this time. There are no more flow throughs at Delta, only RJ pilots that get a guaranteed interview after meeting certain wickets at their regional.

"I agree that AA doesn't treat their poolies well, and I'd certainly handle it differently. They need to fix this, because soon they'll be losing out on pilots over it. I honestly think it's because the recruiting guys are probably a bit out of touch with todays pilot recruit, and the choices they have, the fact that they have lives to plan etc. they were mostly hired in their twenties and single with no kids. They need to shift their thinking to accommodate 40 somethings with wives and kids, schools and sports to think about. And guys like you with a choice of employer..."

Interesting.
I'm a recruiting guy. I can tell you it's not the interviewers who are messing with the poolies. We have some say in who gets hired, but no say in assigning class dates and such. One thing that AA has to do is it's diligence. The background checks and the stuff that happens after the third phase interview is part of the hold up. We've lost a few because of it. Those who run Recruitment are aware of these issues. Trying to become more streamlined, quicker and agile at hiring is a contest with HR and bacground checks. Balancing OTS and Flow throughs is another somewhat unique aspect. It's talked about every week and changes are coming. Everybody involved is hoping it's sooner, not later.
Classes are kinda jammed right now, but a few new hires, for whatever reason, don't show. If you are all processed and everything is done, you can let 'em know you could take an earlier slot if it comes up.

It could very well be the background check. I called Hire Right directly and found out it was 92% complete. Followed up every week until they were complete. Some counties take a long time getting back to them so it can get hung up for a few extra weeks. I missed a class while waiting.
Meanwhile myself and several others I know were in class 14 days after the phone call.
It's probably just AA being AA. I wish more would decline after receiving another offer. The way they keep folks in limbo isn't right.

AA is thorough about background checks for a reason. You want to fly with a German Wings type someday? They aren't trying to jerk people around. Hiring is easy, but hiring the best and knowing who you're getting isn't so easy. In the whole spectrum of flying jobs in the world (think about that for a minute), it's a pretty great gig that gets better the further you get into it. We're trying to make it even better.

Along the topic of delays, does your seniority date start the day you start indoc or the day you start training on your aircraft? And, as far as bidding later on for bases, is that strictly on your seniority date, or how long you've been in your aircraft?
Thanks,

Once you are on the seniority list that is how you bid for bases, aircraft, monthly bids, etc. Time spent on aircraft doesn't matter. If you're senior in your class and you take the E-190, when you bid off of it you are ahead of the guys junior to you in your class that took the Airbus or 737.
