The VP of Planning (JB) mentioned a triangle route. Leave your base, fly a long leg, Overnight and fly two legs back to base the next day. Or vice-versa.
I think that management would only use such trips to connect cities that currently not possible with a nine hour turn and possibly city pairs that do not include a crew base.
I'm speaking of non-charter ops, of course...although such a system has the potential to make charters more efficient and thus profitable.
An efficient, high-credit 2-day as described above would be good for commuters or even locals looking for an efficient trip. It would allow the company to extend it's flying reach and increase its ability to move flying around the system. They'd be able to easily adjust for seasonal fluctuations without opening and closing bases and could probably eliminate TDY and VBD. It would increase aircraft utilization and reduce the cycles/flight hour ratio with longer legs. It would allow for easier growth by serving city pairs without requiring one to be a crew or MX base.
This is all provided, of course, that reliability is improved and a robust MX network is put into place. One non-MEL-able hiccup at an outstation could screw up a lot of flights. Although, the flexibility allowed with such a system just might make it a lot easier to come up with a replacement aircraft and/or crew.
..which means reassignments....my head hurts.

I think more than likely they'll be for Apple vacations. Rumor of a Denver base announcement soon.

Regardless, If the company can find markets or flying which help to fill the gaps between seasonal (or even weekly) peak periods that differ from those experienced today, it could mean better schedules for everyone. (i.e. The end of the "Allegiant Weekend.")
I fully realize that my appraisal is optimistic. However, it is certain that growth and schedule improvement are severely limited by the nine hour day and the company's current "out and back" flying.

I would guess the bases doing overnights, at least to start out, would be: IWA, LAS, SFB, PIE, and maybe BLI. I think you will see overnights in cities currently served by those bases as a way to connect the East Coast to LAS.

Brace for impact.
No contract (not for awhile anyways) + new overnights + no real work rules + company's love for "flexibility" = Terrible QOL and misery for the pilot group. Don't plan on any guarantee of days off even if you live in base, nevermind commuters
FWIW my buddy who is an FO at RAH just cancelled his interview there due to the new contract. As a 3rd going on 4th year FO 170/175 he'll beat a 2nd year FO at G4 with more time off. Hopefully a reduction in pilots coming over from RAH will shrink the pilot pool a bit.
