2. Vacation at G4. Could you describe the bidding process and how it affects your schedule in a vacation month(virtual credit, trip touch, etc...)?

Vacation is 20 hours of credit for the 7 days. You bid annually for your vacation. You are required to take it, or it would be assigned. Because awards are made pre-schedule bid, and we work one day trips at G4, there is no vacation touching.

Honestly, vacation sucks here in my opinion. In the small bases, there is not anywhere near enough vacation slots available to have a decent vacation slot. You are not allowed to pick up Open Time on vacation, so basically you just wind up with a random week off for no reason.

Curious about AVL..I may want to apply in the near future..I have been doing 4 days for 17 years..day lines sound nice. I would really like AVL. What is the seniority of left and right seat folks?

I am really junior and in a revolving door base where everyone picks their vacation and leaves with it.

1. Could someone comment on the CVG domicile? Is it AB or MD or both? Also, how long could a new-hire expect to wait before being able to hold it?

2. Vacation at G4. Could you describe the bidding process and how it affects your schedule in a vacation month(virtual credit, trip touch, etc...)?

3. Is VPS a base? I've seen announcements saying so, but no hard info on APC. If yes, what ac is/are based there?

4. Can virtual basing be awarded to new hires or does it go more senior?
Vacation bid window opens up for 3 weeks in October (I think) and awards are seniority based. After window closes, awards are first come first serve. For bases of 20 pilots or more, slots will be available for every seat position for every week of the year. Bigger base = more vacation flexibility when Jr.

I am assuming you want to know how many days you can get off in a month with vacation? A month that contains 2 weeks of vacation, the company is required to give minimum 6 additional days off. So 2 weeks vacation = 20 days off minimum. With some vacation shuffling, smart bidding, and a slower month, you can get 28 days off in a row... my personal best.

The inability to pick up open time during vacation is a good thing, that is why it's in the contract. It makes the company hire more pilots. More pilots = more flexibility with trip drops and other QOL things.

We get x amount of weeks of vacation depending on longevity. You must take vacation, if you do not bid it, it is assigned. Vacation must be taken a week at a time at a minimum. ie some people take a week here and there, others take weeks back to back if they can hold it.

VPS is a seasonal base, not a permenant base. It could become permanent in the future though if it does well enough. It is staffed with virtual base (VBD) pilots currently.

VBD is a mix! Lots of senior people, lots of junior people.

Thanks for all the great information! I have one more question about CVG being AB only. I was online and noticed several MD inbounds to CVG last night from non-domiciles with 10pm arrival times and several MD departures this morning early. Plus more scheduled in the future. Is there VBD there with the MD fleet or something plus the AB domicile? Don't want to quibble but there seems to be both types running in and out to non-domicile destinations.

Most of the time that is a flight aware mistake with regards to CVG. To determine if a flight is an MD or AB simply look at the filed/flown altitude. The MD cannot fly above 370 and typically isn't filed for an altitude above 330/340.

Those may have been flights that originated from a different base. Typically anything that originates and terminates in CVG is a flight 13xx number.

Flight aware has been showing a lot of the flights I work out of FL as an MD80 but I'm on the airbus. It's been consistantly incorrect for about the last year now.

Yep, not sure why that glitch exists....FlightRadar24 app has the correct a/c type, though.
