OAK is very junior for clear reasons. (Super expensive etc etc) It's great for a new hire who wants OAK because it is easy to hold right off the bat. (This is assuming of course you get the airbus). It is great on reserve if you live near the airport because you will only get called if a plane breaks down or if someone calls in sick. Schedules are not so good if you choose to fly the line with the top 2 guys getting all the good stuff. There is a lot of movement in OAK on the FO side, most are holding out for another base so you should expect to move up pretty quickly as a new hire. There is also a rumor about the possible addition of 1 plane in 2018 which should improve flying schedules for more junior ppl at the base but probably increasing the chance of getting called on reserve.

OAK has a lot of potential and I think they could easily add 5-10 destinations 2-3x a week and fill the flights on a regular basis. For some reason it hasn't been a focus. In most cases OAK has the least amount of flying even compared to Myrtle Beach. My guess for why it's a revolving door... If you're a Bay Area based pilot you'd probably be better off waiting for United, and for some people WN/Virgin Alaska might be a better fit.

I am not sure if anyone has gotten a phone interview lately. I think the video interview has largely replaced the phone interview. If you get one, it is just a few questions, such as why Allegiant? Any accidents, incidents, violations? Summarize your resume. Explain any gaps in your resume. Etc.

Gotcha. You must be one of the lucky ones then. Every now and then, they make someone do both.

That's the short version. There are people that commute both short term and long term with this job. However, the QOL difference is night and day between commuting and not.
