I will let some of the newer guys tackle the reserve question. Reserve can blow in FL because you will cover every base in FL. I didn't fly too much on rsv, but when I did, it made for some long days. Dramatic increase in QOL once a line holder.

Briefly looking at the new hire awards in last six months, I noticed many more SFB positions than PIE. PIE has become a bit more senior I suspect. You could probably hold SFB right out of training if you don't care which aircraft you are on.

This is what I gathered the past few months... This isn't 100% and anyone can feel free to correct me (go nuts I'm still a neweb)

When I came on board (last fall) I was looking at PIE for a base. Now with all the transition happening (going 80 to airbus) st pete seems to be a bit more senior. I am VBD, and I don't bid PIE even tho coverage is always required there. Mainly bc if you are junior you will be bottom reserve.

Right now in my humble opinion SFB seems to be the base were it's not so bad.

I truly hope many of you are not basing your decisions to come here on how long you can hold a line or much less upgrade. One big thing with allegiant I learned is that it's so dynamic and growing which means very evident growing pains, and big big BIIIIG operational changes, that one has to be willing to "bite" the bullet and focus on the finish line.

I enjoy this airline, my family is still back home, I don't commute often bc it is difficult. So the family comes to me when the kids have breaks in school.

I know it won't last for ever, so I'm making the most of it. My recommendation is come here, try to commute as best as you can, but be ready and have your spouse's (family's) support and be flexible to go through a little of a trial time while you decide what your seniority can hold and where you are willing to move. Once you are living in base? yeah, you'll see. It was worth it.

Cheers

This is excellent advice. Don't come here thinking that you're going to get the base that you want right out of the gate. Could it happen? Sure, but don't plan on it. Especially if the base that you want is tied to one specific airplane. Accept that you might have to commute for a bit, but the end result will be worth it one day.

Above is a great post. Within 18 months when the airbus transition is done, and with growth/attrition, everyone will be able to be where they want. On the flip side, if you want to live in Oakland now has never been a better time to come to Allegiant!

I think Sanford Airbus FO is a little more senior than PIE Airbus FO. One year Sanford FO's are still sitting reserve on the bus where they would be holding a line in PIE.

But you are right, its hard to say what will happen in the short future with all the transitioning going on.

Whoops, yeah sorry man. I was referring SFB MD80 haha. But yeah LAS a few months ago was dog sh**** junior, I know Bc I remember being at the bottom lol. Now seems like a good number of junior peeps are SFB or LAS. With VDB for AVL and PIE

Very interesting regarding Oakland, why do you say that? Is there still a lot of movement there and is it a VBD? Thank you.

Why we have OAK and some other bases is completely beyond me. LAX is similar. I get LA is somewhat busy in the summer, but come on. Almost my entire new hire class from Oct are all in LAX. We literally never fly. It is soooooo overstaffed it's ridiculous. However, we can drop every single day that is on our schedule (and thank god for that). July cannot come soon enough as I head to SFB and get out of a crash pad.

I will definitely be going back to the sim as I will not consolidate 🙄 This despite me picking up trips outside of LA, only to get kicked off of them as someone needs OE. Just crazy. This place can definitely suck until you get where you want, but that's everyone airline when you start out. When you do get to fly it is fun and super chill compared to the regionals.
