Just curious guys... What were your times when you applied? TT etc... Greatly appreciated!
[qQUOTE=AlphaTexan31;2258094]Looks like I'll be in the January class. Anyone want to look into their crystal ball and take a shot at bases and equipment that will be up for grabs in January? I wouldn't assume any more 75 spots after several supposedly went to the December class. Hoping there are a few west coast options (IWA, LAS, LAX, OAK).
Also, fishing through this thread, it looks like VBD gets 10 guaranteed days off? Any truth to that?
Extremely excited to join the G4 team![/QUOTE]

I want even try to guess what we will be available in January. As for as west coast bases, LAS is fairly quick if you get the MD80. OAK is a junior revolving door. IWA has a long and growing line to get there. LAX (or VBD) is where the IWA want to be's hangout while they are waiting on IWA, so it is often a revolving door as well.

My advice to those interested is to give serious and honest thought to an interview question relating to whether or not you will commute. This is not an airline you want to be commuting to, we don't do things like other airlines. Is the misery, pain, and suffering of commuting to an un commutable airline worth it to you?
Assuming you are not going to commute, give thought to a question regarding what happens if you don't get the base you want right away.

VBD's bid among themselves, monthly. This takes place before schedules are bid for. Once the VBD bid is complete, you are effectively based in which ever base you are awarded. Now fast forward to the monthly schedule bid. The VBD guys bid according to their overall system seniority in whichever base they are awarded. For example, if the most senior pilot in the company, was VBD, he would bid #1 in whichever base he was awarded, each month. Now to work back to the question...line holders get 12 min days, reserves get 12 days except for 3 months, in which they are reduced to 10. This is published beforehand, annually. The chances of being VBD, ending up as a reserve, in a base with only 10 days off, every month of the year, is very small.

Days off for VBD are exactly the same as everyone else, you get 11/12 min depending on month but can get more as you get senior. VBD is just a voluntary TDY, you get put in a base where you're needed and you get to bid in that base with all the other pilots just as you would if it was your own domicile. VBD is starting to lean senior as people are discovering the monetary benefits. I would say it will last about another 12-24mo for the -80 and 24-30mo for the bus with a much smaller permanent contingency of VBD after transition is complete.

Thanks for all the intel guys, much appreciated.
That's about what I was expecting with the VBD situation. Happy to hear that you get to bid monthly in whichever base you get assigned for that month. I do a lot of TDY with my current company, but there's no bidding involved. So any opportunity to have a say in where/how I spend the month, even as one of the most junior on the roster, will be an improvement.

One spot just opened in the January 4th class. I was in it but turned them down cause I got hired at AA. Seems like a cool place to be if you live in a solid base. I am an Asheville guy and the prospects of getting there were not giving me the warm and fuzzy feeling. And commuting here... not the best idea! Haha
