I'm sure it has happened. Allegiant, has zero shortage of pilots and as a matter of fact the resume stack is 6" high. Few people leave. Which is surprising to me.

Talk to anyone who's looking.....the rumored Pilot Shortage has yet to reach the legacy level.

I'm in the middle @ Allegiant & moved up 3 numbers which equates to an annual attrition of 2% - 2 percent among the captains, the most qualified with type ratings & Part 121 jet PIC. Some want to stay, a lot are looking hard; the current job-search environment is extremely frustrating, some would say demoralizing.

While it'd be nice to stay, I'm keeping all options open. Getting a call from a legacy right now is very hard it seems. For United I've been told you need 7-9 internal recs or chase them around the country to at least 3 or 4 job fairs. Not sure about DAL or AA, but probably about the same. Even Spirit and JetBlue seem to need a job fair or two to get looked at. With the new pay rates even VX is attractive.

Thumbs up

I hate to say it but be patient... but the next year is going to be very telling. Although, it's still a tough market all three Legacies are hiring at a pretty good tick, FDX and UPS are hiring a few also. The recession left the bucket full of overqualified pilots, fortunately at the rate we're going the bottom of the bucket is in sight.

I recently talked to a CA here with PIC time on both the AB and the MD, he's trying to get out and I think his odds are good, esp with PIC time on those aircraft. Most CA's I've met however are lifers here, because of the pay and they live in base. Plus, after we get a contract this place may actually be a decent place to hang your hat and many are banking on that.

All that said, if you want out you still have to work for it... but sucking it up and giving up your free time going to a job fair and prepping for a Delta or American interview is worth the short term pain. I never met a Legacy pilot that said doing the networking and interview prep wasn't worth the victory of getting the job!

Good Luck to those trying to get out.

People could just be waiting for class. AA is kind of on hold until they sort out who is returning from furlough. UAL is a couple months out from the CJO.

I think AA has still been running classes with a mix of off the street hires (mostly mil), prior furloughs, and Envoy flows. That's per the thread on this site, not first hand info though.
