We hear a lot about the culture at places like SWA, who hire people who will fit in to that...what's the culture that Allegiant is trying to build?

Look at United, Continetal and Spirit. They aren't exactly setting the world on fire in comparable sized aircraft. Airtransat is totally weak for major airline pay as well. I had a friend turn them down a job on the A300 in favor of staying at his non-union foreign carrier on the A320. Airtransat wanted to pay him $2000 a month less to fly a wide body. Way to go ALPO.
I have said this long before the whole Wisconsin teachers union debacle. The unions have totally destroyed our ability to negotiate with collective bargaining and the seniority system. There is no better way to negotiate than with your feet. Airlines need us to move aircraft. When they know they have you tied down due to predetermined wages and your precious seniority they win. You won't leave no matter how badly they treat you.
I am a grown man and I am perfectly capable of negotiating my own salary. I am not some no talent janitor or manual laborer. Unions are for weaklings. Union leaders are a bunch of fat cat politicians who manipulate fools into believing you need them. You don't.

I have the benefit of working in a non-union industry before this, and I've had my share of "annual evaluations" that examined whether or not I was being a good boy for the company. That would be the case for us as well if there were zero unions in this industry. The union for all its misgivings serves a purpose, and just because it needs improving does not mean we have to demolish it altogether.

USAIR is not represented by ALPA. If you also don't recognize why USAIR is where it is today they you are somewhat ignorant of the entire industry.

Second that. Tired of clods spouting off about unions. BTW, if money was the only issue, we can get rid of about 31 other sections, and negotiations would be pretty quick. Instead of pretending to be so worldly and informed about labor relations, read a few books and get involved in your local. Look around, if you want to fly major freight and passenger airlines, that attitude will get you nowhere. Stay with what bizjet or low-rent outfit you want.

G4 has been around for about 13 years or so. I dont get why people get on there case for not having industry leading pay wages!
Also i think Fishfreighter was a memeber here before, but he got kicked off. So now he is back with a different screen name.

It is ironic though that USAPA went to an arbitrator to get a ruling on the snapback provisions in their ALPA negotiated contract.
