If that's true then that senior captain worked 20+ days a month every month doing open time, line checks and sim training. Not on par with most other captains topping 200k.
Being home every night is worth a lot to most. However the pay and work rules aren't comparable to other MD80 operators out there. The trajectory is in the right direction and with luck and proper bargaining it will become that soon.

Now... What exactly is wrong with our pay? 6 year Captains are making 140K without working too hard. Maybe our definitions of working hard are different, but coming to work and flying 2 or 4 legs a day and ending up back on your couch at the end of the day is not working hard in my book.
We're certainly not Southwest in the pay department, but I don't think we're anywhere near the bottom either.
Our work rules... not the best, but we do have some really nice stuff in there. Let's see... We're guaranteed guarantee. Call in sick all month and lose zero PTO and get paid 70 hours. Go on medical leave and get paid guarantee until you're 65.
We have a new VP of Flight Ops (ex NW guy) who sounds like a pilots manager and with that we'll likely see some work rule changes to better everyone's life.
Oh... We also get unlimited open time pick up. We've got people making 30K in overtime pay picking up day trips.
We may not be for everyone, but to say our pay and workrules lack that of other MD80 operators is short sided. You may not think day trips add to quality of life, but that's only because you're not doing them.

as a 4 year captain, and junior line holder that was on reserve 4 month last year flew around 800 hours was just under 140k. On a good hour month I can gross just under 15k on average is around 12K. with average of 14 days off a month

As far as work rules, maybe not the bottom, but would you say that it is OK that you don't get paid protected for trips dropped due to training events? That a training day only pays $80 for the DAY? Or how about that deadheading pays a whopping $20/hr.? Are these industry standard? Or maybe it's that you like the vacation pay, which is worth 17.2 hrs for the week, if I recall correctly. Allegiant is the only place that I know of where if you take vacation or go to required training, you lose money. Ridiculous.

Someone from AA can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe they get paid for weather cancellations. We lose pay (which is recoverable with super seniority) for training events that happen once or twice a year, but are guaranteed pay protection for cancellations.
We get a lousy $20 an hour for DH... Yea it sucks, but even our reserves don't DH much. Even if the company gave us 100% credit towards guarantee for DH, it wouldn't amount to anything over guarantee when our reserve pilots are flying 40 hours a month.
Would you give up free sick time or guarantee until 65 for a loss of medical to gain some training pay or DH pay? Some of you guys are pretty small minded and short sighted if the answer is yes.
