I wish that was true, but regionals, commuters, express, whatever you want to call them have been around awhile. With anything in life, especially a pro job like a pilot, u have to start at the bottom. Lawyers, doctors, athletes, actors... there are exceptions of course! Thats all i meant.

I think I'll stick to the other forum I chat with people on from now on. At least over there it's not a continuios cry fest of disgruntled workers.

You guys need to get your panties out of a wad and either accept it, do something about it or move on! The constant complaining has brought a once fun place to learn and chat with fellow pilots into a place full of arguing and bickering beause "ohhh ohhhhh, your not a union shop, you fly for a 135 outfit! Your destroying our industry!!!!!!" I though that was what your union dues were supposed to do, help support the industry, and preserve it. Looks like they have done a fine job.
I hope you at least continue after this post because it really made me laugh. Thank you!

First off are you a 121 pilot or just civilian Navajo? If you don't, or haven't, worked in the 121 industry than you really don't have any real leg to stand to tell us not to be upset as to what's going on in this segment of aviation.

I like how you say if we are so upset that we should pack it in. Then you say we should accept it, do something about it or move on. Well you actually have both on this thread. You have the people who accept the lower pay and you have the group that wants something done about it and guess what, part of that doing something about it is the discussions that go on here. Call it complaining or the b word but there are people that see things need to change and are tired of the undercutting that goes on in this industry. At the regionals or mainline size equipement.

If you want everyone to sing kumbaya it's not going to happen.

Why is it that if we don't like the way things are going that we should just pack it in? Shouldn't we try to make it better rather than just give up? Because I like my job, but not the way the industry has been going over the last 20+ years.

Who gave you the idea that anyone is angry with life? lol

I'm not saying start out at the top and I have no problem starting out at the bottom. The only dues that should be paid when you are at an airline is with the schedule that you get. ie weekends/holidays

I've always heard that you need to pay your dues by flight instructing (or other time building). Then you have to pay your dues in the regionals. Then some are saying that you should pay dues at a smaller carrier. Then when you get the a major (if one ever does, kind of tough these days) that you should pay your dues as a lower FO on the totem pole. ie first year pay.

I'm not talking about any specific negotiation. Whether it be 1 contract or 4 contracts. How much time or size should be given to go from start up to industry average?

It's not a new pilots job to increase the pay by not going. It's the pilot who are currently there that are responsible. I'm not advocating not going to Allegiant or a regional. Regional pilots should also be raising their sub par pay and contracts as well but this is a discussion about Allegiant not the regionals.

With your last sentence are you saying that if you don't work for a major then you should accept that you won't get paid like one?
So I guess it is a safe assumption that you are doing so much more than the Allegiant guys are to raise the bar then at your airline? May I ask what you are doing (other than the prefered and oh-so-productive method of b***ching on a web board)...?

It's not about what one individual does, it's about what the whole group can do that changes things. One individual will not change things. On individual things you can vote no, which seems to be a rarity these days. Talk to your reps let them know what you want and expect. Get involved with the unions. That doesn't mean being a rep either.

If you don't know what else will work in a group effort then I really don't want to say. Just look around at what's helped out other airlines at the negotiating table.

Okay, I see some points brought up consistently:
1. The 757 has a new paint job.
2. The reduced pay is due to other pilots (pick the group) as opposed to crappy management.
3. Spelling and grammar are incredibly important.

I have a foreign national buddy that had not heard of Allegiant until recently. He began to tell me something about the airline the other day and pronounced it "Alley-GIANT" (like the big guy at the bowling emporium)

How do I advise him?

just tell him to say "alley-giant" really fast, and kind of slur it together, and he'll have the proper pronunciation.

Hahaha! Met an F/A with Omni who pronounced it the same way. She had some swagger to her (and a great pair), so I didn't correct her and let her think she had it right the whole time. Man, was she confident about "Ali-GIANT"
