Jumpseating on NWA the other day and the CA was showing me his paystub from 1988 - he makes less today than he did then - I couldn't believe it....I'm sure if we compared the same pay stubs from management it'd be a different story. Reminds me of Apocalypse Now - COL Kurtz saying, ...the horror, the horror.....

I really think the pay stub may be total BS.. Never flown with a capt who has a pay stub from back then......BTW, he was a F/O then......

I hear what you are saying but whatever he showed me looked pretty real - maybe paystub is the wrong term and rgr, he would of been an fo - at anyrate, I tend to think that his bottom line is true - he makes less today than he did over a decade ago....

My point is that although Allegiant payscales look awful, so do other payscales of other airlines IMO. I hope they stay afloat as I know there are a lot of good people over there too (ex TWAs).....

Why do you think SW fuel hedges will diminish? Aren't hedges, basically, a tactic to turn a variable cost into a fixed cost? I've heard this copout for years. "When SW's fuel hedges run out, then we'll see who makes a profit." Well, from what I've read SW is still making a profit.
Hedging is an ongoing thing and won't run out.

Best wishes to Allegiant!!!

Southwest, the leading U.S. low-cost carrier, benefited from a US$300-million gain from its industry-leading fuel hedges to nearly double profits and beat Wall Street expectations.

"Without our fuel-hedging gains, we would not have made money in the fourth quarter," Southwest CEO Gary Kelly said on a conference call.

According an annual report, here is the company's fuel hedge for forward years ("approximate" per barrel basis, as of mid-January): 2007 is 95% hedged at $50/barrel; 2008 is 65% hedged at $49/barrel; 2009 is over 50% hedged at $51/barrel; 2010 is over 25% hedged at $63/barrel; 2011 is over 15% hedged at $64/barrel; 2012 is 15% hedged at $63/barrel.

It's unfortunate that so many have lost jobs and the outlook is not very bright, especially with spirialing crude prices.

Best of luck Mates.
What the intent of the comment was, it does not sound good for the industry, not specifically Allegiant Air. Actually, what Allegiant Air is doing makes a lot of sense and the decision to pull out of Greensboro (GSO) was a good one. It is and always has been, a weak market.

As I stated, I wish everyone good luck.

For anyone old enough to remember...."keep essential powered".

Bull,

It does seem like most Coasties go to either SW or JB with some sprinklings other places. I'm looking more at quality of life when not flying, i.e. out and backs look good when I have younglings at home. The atmosphere today makes me glad that I am still flying Redtail Air.

For FO's, it is pretty jr. For CA's, it is very senior. There are only 3 crews. CA's don't leave and FO's leave to upgrade.

Currently 2 jets, 5 lines, 4 reserves. Rumor has it that we will get a 3rd jet this summer. So maybe 10 lines and 5 reserves. Hopefully this will require a new class.
