Could be futher proof of Tom = AR. AR doesnt want a contract - he has an easy gig and is collecting millions from the members to pay for his backlights and travel trips. Bids PGD for the best $$$ but lives in IWA where he would be on reserve? He doesnt want to settle any time soon. He wants to drag it out as long as he can.

As a newcomer to AAY that doesnt know any of the "deep lore" how likely is a favorable contract this year? Will we see freshman pay rates rise to competitive levels? What is attrition like to the other major carriers?

There is a chance something with one of our arbitrations goes our way very shortly which will cause a massive tidal shift where the company wants to really get this done. Otherwise I don’t think 2024 is realistic.

There is no incentive for MG to hand over an industry standard, let alone industry leading contract. JB - not hiring. SWA - not hiring. Spirit - not hiring. Delta - 50% cut in hiring. United - raising competative minimums and still filling classes.

Managment will not pay a penny more, any sooner, than they need to. The bonehead gave the farm away with signing the agreement for the retention bonus. All leverage has gone. I'm sure AR, i mean Tom will spin it differently. But thats the situation you are in now. I would expect the company to remove the retention bonus soon. Why even pay 35% more when they dont have to? All soft pay options are gone. You wont see it this year, or next. Maybe never. The pilot shortage that has been predicted over and over again through the decades has come, and is now going away. Cheap imports from south american and asia are here to stay.

Even if the union said no, there was nothing preventing the company from setting aside bonus money and using it as a retention and/or recruiting tool. The only difference the union did by agreeing was getting it in writing as a signed LOA and preventing the company from retracting it later after they benefited from it. It would have been a mistake not to agree to it unless you didn't want it in writing because you fully trust the company's word that they will pay you later in good faith. There is a lot of upcoming incentive for the company to get a deal done and it's not about new hire classes being full or not. It's the same reason we got the last TA, if you don't know what I'm refering to search my previous post.

I'd hope nobody really expected a TA that quickly? AA, DAL, UAL, B6, AS, WN etc all took 3-4 years. Nobody was under 3 years except for the 2 contract extensions, UPS and NK. This August will mark 3 years from expiration, I would have been shocked if we beat the whole industry and got something quicker. You're correct about the current contract, it's terrible but the new TA, whenever that happens, will make this one of the most desirable airlines if you value qol and day trips.
