Default Hoping to get on at ABE

What are the chances of getting ABE out of class? I live very close to that airport and from what I hear, it doesn't make sense to try for Allegiant unless you live in base.

The completely unofficial vacancy prediction shows 5 remaining airbus vacancies after this current bid. However, things can change (for example, if the next few classes before yours have 5 new hires who want ABE), and at a certain point they are likely to start pushing new hires into the 737 as there are predicted to be many, many unfilled spots on that.

This is a little harder to answer with the introduction of the Boeing.

normally ABE would be pretty easy to get out of training. It has typically been a revolving door for FOs and less desirable base.

The Boeing is just a meteor of uncertainty because nobody knows how new hires will view the 737 vs the 320. The Boeing will be in Florida so that could cause some to prioritize their desired base over their desired aircraft - which from people I’ve talked to is the majority consensus.

my two cents: people will prioritize their preferred base (PIE or SFB) over their preferred aircraft (320 vs 737). Therefore, you should be able to hold ABE relatively easily out of training but again it’s an educated guess at best.

So the best base for a new FO to go in order to maximize flying hours is FLL, or somewhere in Florida? Will this change with the addition of the 737?

This question is not about pay, and not about breaking min guarantee. This is a question about putting hours into a logbook.

I would not say FLL you would fly more. SFB, PIE, PGD would likely fly more as a new person. Depending on the plane. 737 at first will do a lot a training so FO's may get more time off in the beginning. I would bet the 737 will be flown at higher per day block hours in the bases it is vs the AB.

The big question if not about pay are you looking to come to build hours? you could get paid better at a regional and likely fly as much or more.

I agree about the 737 block hours, cheaper CASM with the fuel savings can open up more routes assuming staffing isn't the bottleneck. I disagree about recommended a regional over G4 IF money doesn't matter to you. I'm sure you will make more coin in the short term on the RJ but what if you don't get a call from the big 6 (or flow) and you end up staying 5-10 years or longer in that whipsaw environment. What if ALGT gets a contract later this year and now you're still stuck on a regional jet making a lot less for years? Just something to consider with the decision...
