Default Why or why not Allegiant

All right guys, give me your why and why not join Allegiant thoughts. Obviously, this would be best answered by people who know, not just speculation of why you may not like allegiant. I’d like to know from people flying the line what they enjoy about it and what they wish with a little better. Let’s hear it.

PRO's: day trips are the reason you come to allegiant - very little TAFB compared to any other airline; airline is best position out of the ULCC carriers to avoid bankruptcy or consolidation (unless G4 is the one making an acquisition); i genuinely enjoy the crews i fly with.

CON's: pay, pay, pay. management has historically ignored the pilot group, or actively antagonized pilot group. new management might not continue this trend, but they have a decade of poor leadership to overcome. union and management are both run like ma and pa shops or mob bosses depending on who you ask - nobody will tell you that union leadership or management are run like professional airline. you could get bored flying the same routes out of provo over and over again.

if you have more specific questions you can post them here or DM one of us

Why not just go to Delta and hold SLC?

Why are you considering Allegiant? Might be able to provide greater insight if we know your reasons.

My main reason for considering Allegiant is the lifestyle. I don't want to live in hotels 3-4 days every week. Being on the road consistently just doesn't work for my family life either. Those are my main reasons and I'm just not aware of any other airline that comes close to getting you the lifestyle Allegiant currently offers. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I see this all the time. It’s similar to someone saying they want to be a cop, but nights, weekends, and holidays don’t work for their family.

Don’t pass up what could potentially be a vastly better career at xyz because you don’t want to stay in a hotel. With seniority you can do anything you want, you just need to put the time in to earn that right. There’s also nothing to say that Allegiant won’t change their entire business model and shift to a trip mix.

It really is hard to beat the lifestyle. I haven't stayed in a hotel in ages, have never done a scheduled airport sit (all quick turns) or a redeye. I typically have around 20 days off and 70-75hrs credit with 100 hours TAFB. However it would take a long time to get a similar schedule for a new hire, especially for the captain side. I occasionally will bid reserve in the slow months and often never get called for the whole month or sometimes just 1 or 2 days. If you are junior it can be challenging to get larger blocks of days off if you want to do some traveling outside of your vacation and drops are rare while we are understaffed. Morale is probably at an all time low but the airline is really one contract away from becoming one of the most desirable jobs but who knows when that will happen.

PVU will be 4 days a week of flying, often 4 legs a day (they have a ton of 4 leg trips over there, per PVU pilots I know there). Plenty of circling approaches off of the ILS while dodging all of the flight school planes that train around there.
