Default Flight bag vs Personal Size limit

I bought tickets for fight on Allegiant. I paid for a checked bag, but was planning on bringing my cockpit flight bag as a personal item. I realized this morning, however, that my flight bag is larger than Allegiant's personal bag size limits. I have a tag on it from United that says it is exempt from limits, but I was not sure Allegiant would allow it. Anyone know? I will not be in uniform if that matters.

They will make you pay. You can go online and add a carry-on or check back and it is cheaper than at the airport.
