Contract negotiations

It might be hard for the Florida guys to comprehend, but there are plenty of airline pilots happy to live in Michigan, DSM, etc. Look at the Allentown base, it used to be the butt of all jokes... now it barely has any vacancies. Same with GRR. I would expect ATW/FNT/PVU to fill in like that. If you live in a microbase, you can exploit the VFN system and make a killing, with great trips, and often with a low cost of living.
The majors are locking down their feed. American has it the easiest because they can go to the WOs and give them a bucket of cash to give to the pilots and tell the WO management not to pilfer from the bucket. United/Delta have to convince their feed to not steal the bucket of cash for their bottom line instead of giving to the pilots.
Yep.
But how many are willing to take a gamble on Allegiant not closing the base and displacing them, or TDYing them out. How many want to work for the crap money?
I think the reason those bases have filled is because they are not offering vacancies in the other bases. FL bases have shrunk in size through the attrition, and they have not replaces as they normally would, because they know that they are robbing from one hand to give to the other.

Pretty soon G4 is going to be full of undesirables who are only here because they couldn't get hired anywhere else.

You know what all of them have in common? When their base closes there's no reason for them to work here and they will knock the door down to get out. Because everyone knows you can't commute at this airline and all three legacies have rust belt bases.

I'm Confused
Got a message from Maury G in my inbox. This was nice because I feel like if he's putting his name on it then it will probably happen. I've always thought he was smart. The issue is, when does Redmond become CEO? I thought it was June 1st.
Why is the Chairman of the Board emailing the pilots? Is this a good thing?

I’m cautiously optimistic, but it’s also hard to ignore the timing: just prior to our busiest flying month. If it turns out to be more empty your words, and there are no signs of genuine commitment from MG/the company to give us the contract we deserve soon, things will start to get ugly(ier).

MG putting his name on something should give you reason to look twice. Remember, he hates pilots, and has conditioned all in HQ to hate pilots too. Caveat Emptor
