You will see the available bases and enter your bid the first day of class. They'll process the awards by the beginning of the next week, but everyone will generally figure it out well before then since everyone's seniority is no secret nor is what appeals to them from the list of bases available. And not too terribly common to skip bases *during* training. Shortly after, yes. For example, a pilot who started last Monday (10/4) who didn't get their desired base can now participate in the October vacancy bid, which is awarded on 10/20. If they get their desired base on that vacancy bid, that's great, but they're still liable for their originally awarded base from the completion of IOE (which if everything runs correctly and without delay should be by mid January) until March 2nd. March 2nd is when the October vacancy becomes effective. If they can't get into their desired base until the November Vacancy, they'll have to wait til April. Sometimes new hires get lucky and face extended delays during training which helps with avoiding a commute, I'm not sure if that is going to happen this time around... it appears that pilots from the July 12 class are already hitting IOE since they're coming up as eligible to bid for November.

I haven’t heard any rumors but plug in those cities on the main website and count the frequency. If there is at least 20 departures per week then there is a chance. The next base is suppose to be announced in Jan.

I'd put SBN on the short list now. Lots of flights to both Florida and the west coast. Underserved airport with lots of empty gates, on the edge of a major urban area, who will probably pay us to set up shop there (that's the secret ingredient). I'd also say BLV, RFD, and MEM are on that list.
