For training, how close are the hotel(s) to the training center and other places we may need to be? I'm assuming there are shuttles available. Just trying to decide if it is worth driving out (coming from east coast) instead of flying in order to have the luxury of my own transportation while out there. Regardless of the hotel type I'll still plan to hit up some stores to stock some drinks/food in the room. I also don't want to get it out there then get stuck with no time to get it back out of there to whatever base I may get.

Absolutely do not do this. There are shuttles or company pays for lyft, most of the hotels are near food and grocery, and even if you did have to go out, chances are you will be going with your classmates and could split the transportation cost if necessary. Also, not all of the training is necessarily conducted in LAS. Now, if you were driving from say, Phoenix or LA that would be a big convenience especially to get to outdoor recreation etc.

Thanks flydiamond. That's how I was leaning, but figured I'd check.

Not only that this company is known to say “we want you at Kxxx tomorrow, here’s your ticket information” and now you’ve got a car stuck in Vegas for who knows how long.

Going to initial training here is kind of like enlisting in the military. Expect anything, prepare for nothing.

My class stayed at the Residence Inn by the outlet mall. There’s a few restaurants and fast food places around the hotel, as well as a gas station, liquor store, and of course, the outlet mall. There’s a Smith’s grocery store and CVS about a 1/4 mile from the hotel. Every once in a while I would borrow a classmates car to go to Walmart, but it was very doable without a car.

You’ll know a few days before class starts what hotel you’ll be at; just jump on google maps and look at what is around the hotel, and decide how far you’re willing to walk carrying groceries. I made the trip a few times a week and did all my own cooking, but it was only a 1/4 mile walk in the summer. I probably would’ve done things different if I had to walk a half mile in 40 degree weather with a 20 mph wind.

If you’re in the Dec 6th class I’ll be in that one as well. I live in PHX and will most likely drive my truck up. I’m more than happy to give you a ride anywhere you need to go, within reason. I’m not taking you to the Bunny Ranch!😂

10/25 class here. Staying at Homewood Suites Downtown (although the company uses a number of hotels in the area). Company-provided shuttle bus takes you to and from class. On Mondays it stops at Walmart after class for a grocery run. Several people in the class have cars and are very accommodating with helping out others if you need to get anything (not guaranteed of course, but quite likely). Some have even rented a car for a weekend excursion. Totally agree with what others have said here…flexibility is key!
