That could kick-start the graveyard spiral everyone seems to be predicting.

Anyone who listened carefully to what the EXCO was saying the past year and isn’t willing to sell themselves short to be home every night - they’ve already left or have applied. All these guys just now supposedly submitting PRIA requests & updating their logbooks - I’ll believe when I see it. Most of these folks aren’t leaving unless their base closes.
I think there is 2 ways to look at which bases will have to be closed, a near certainty. The first way is base size and how easily that flying can be absorbed into another base(s). For example some are basically seasonal and go down to 1 or 2 airplanes off season. Easily absorbed. But the second way is base staffing and this includes Flight Attendants as well. It's possible we have a base that cannot be staffed and has continuous cancellations, its just an undesirable place for people to want to live so its a continuous revolving door. In short, the decision to close the base could be for two different reasons.

There is huge ripple effects here with either of these two scenarios.

Take a smaller base like SAV. It only has 9 Captains and 10 FO's. This flying can be absorbed elsewhere easily, but these Captains are senior and their displacement into Florida will be felt by junior Captains in Florida.

On the flip side, take a base like ABE. Not very senior at all because most do not want to live there. Much more pilots in this base, there is 17 Captains and 16 FO's. I would estimate 75% of the Captains from this base will be downgraded right back to where they used to be on displacement.

If you are considering coming here, I would think about the following two things.
  1. Why is Allegiant not upgrading Captains for the last several months when everyone else is?
  2. Are you considering Allegiant for any of the following bases? ABE, ATW, FNT, SAV, and VPS? I think these are the bases that could have issues.

Here's something else to consider. The still haven't fixed the "Vacancy Reduction" loophole in the contract with the flawed displacement language. So they don't have to officially close your base, they could just "reduce" the staffing to zero. In this scenario they don't have to offer displacement rights where you bump someone junior in a base you want, they can just open a bid and force you to choose from where they want you to go. They tried that years ago with the VBD guys when they closed VBD and it went over like a fart in church. If I recall, Andrew got the company to make a "one time exemption" and let them displace. But its still a strong possibility they would try that again. This company loves power and control above all else. It would sure suck to live in VPS and get forced to move to GRR or LAS.

Any idea how hard it would be (or how long I would have to wait as a new-hire) to get BLI as a base?

The bottom FO in BLI wants out, but they are waiting for a spot to open up in a base that has multiple people above them waiting for it. So...sort of hard to say really.

That's how it is though, the bottom of that base has consistent openings because above the bottom two FO spots there is no attrition at all.

BLI in the past when things are moving is usually easy to get. The problem is Upgrade is not possible. The CA list has next to no turn over almost all the CA have been there since the base opened. 16 year CA sitting on Reserve. If you want PNW this is not a good option. Unless you ok being an FO for your career.

If only a couple airlines that have a Seattle base were hiring.
