You should be aiming for F9/N6. Looks like they’re going ahead with a PHX base this fall. They have a contract, and a PHX base coming. From the Frontier thread:

PHX base November of 2022

I guess the big appeal for allegiant is day trips. That sounds like a great QOL. I’m about to start a regional airline in two months. How long do you guys think it would take to get to F9/N6? I wouldn’t be opposed to them at all if it made sense. Thanks for the help guys.

I believe F9 has a mix of mutli-day trips and day trips. Check their threads for the latest. Imo the day trip mirage here can be elusive and overall disappointing when it comes time to upgrade in IWA. And don’t fall for managements sales pitch about a contract being right around the corner. Just nod your head and smile.

Congrats on your regional, big step from CFI. Two ways you can go. Apply immediately to both F9/NK and G4. G4 will call you first, tell them what they want to hear, i.e. I really love day trips and you guys, yada yada. You’ll get a nice fresh A320 type then walk out of the sim and immediately update that bad boy in F9/NK. F9/NK will call, you get the offer then you make the decision. By then if F9/NK got that PHX base makes more sense to go there imo.

Enjoy.

I’d start applying as soon as you’re done with IOE. Get the ATP, some jet time, and some 121 time to put on the app, then update your hours every month.

Roughly twice the size of our IWA base... 180 pilots. I believe we have about 90 in IWA.

Default DSM

Does anyone have any Intel on the DSM base. I know that base opened in 2021, but what's the future of that domicile? I live in the STL area and that domicile makes sense for me and my family. Would anyone suggest commuting or is commuting realistic with the home every night schedule?
Any help would be appreciated.

I would not suggest commuting here. If you’re senior in a big base you can kind of make it work, otherwise your life will be miserable.

DSM seems to be doing very well, SAN and PDX both came back after their seasonal hiatus but with increased 3x a week frequency during summer. EWR and SNA were recently announced, and I believe DSM will be one of the first cities to see international. That said, unless you’re going going to relocate, bad idea.

I’ve commuted for a year (not by choice but waiting for pre furlough base to post vacancies). During the year I averaged 4 days at home per month. Spent about $850 a month on hotels. Schedule is only mitigated by sick and fatigue calls. Made about 25k less than my peers because of my inability to pickup anything. If you hate your wife, come here and commute. Otherwise, go literally anywhere else.

Thanks for the Intel. Looks like I'll be avoiding this company..
