Horrible. Don't commute to Allegiant, by plane or car. Plan to live in base. Frontier and Spirit are hiring anyone and life would be much easier.

I’ll second what 9easy said…don’t even think about a 2.5 hour drive. That would be horrific after a few short weeks. DOH is a worthless way to try and gauge an upgrade. It’s simply a snapshot of what was going on years ago when that person was hired and has nothing to do with the current environment. Allegiant was a fraction of its current size when pretty much every current captain on property was hired. Upgrades going forward will likely take much longer unless the airline tries to double in size again over the next few years.

youd probably be doing more driving than flying every work day. It would be pretty miserable, and that’s as a line holder. Reserve would be impossible, we only have short call 1.5 hour callout.

You finally get your base of choice, are one of the bottom guys in your desired base. Happy as a pig in Sh@&&& until you are forced from home due to a TDY

If you have a specific city in mind, you’re coming to the wrong airline, and you’re in for a very rough ride. Even if you get it as fo, you will be stuck as an fo for half your career waiting for the captains in that base to finally end theirs.
If you want to live in a specific city go to net jets or fedex and just dh from your home city. if you’ll move anywhere, come to Allegiant, live somewhere as an fo for a few years, upgrade to some random town in the Midwest, and then maybe when you have 6-7 years of seniority under your belt you can start getting choosy.
if you’re willing to move the qol here is second to none

LAS fo has tons of openings and will for awhile. However commuting to any base here would be hell.

True....I'm not going to say you can't commute here but as a new-hire FO on the bottom of the list in any base you would be looking at short-call reserve. There are no provisions in our work rules preventing single days off & in fact you can expect a schedule with multiple single days off. Staffing is such that in busier months there is little or no opportunity to massage your schedule. Typically you will have a late release before day(s) off and early start the first day back, further complicating any attempt to commute home. You'll likely find yourself forced to remain in base for the majority of the month. Even as you move up & are a regular lineholder a lot of the above would still hold true. It's not advisable.

You have to see daily out and backs are different from commuting in for a four day trip. Most crashpads will not like you being there 20 nights or more a month. And you will not like being in a crashpad 20 or more nights a month. And there won’t be crashpads like in ORD or EWR when you’re based in DSM or TYS.
So now you are splitting the cost of a house or apartment with two or three other pilots and paying for a car in your small base.
Now you get ten days off and like was mentioned above you start at 3:30am day one of reserve and finish 9:30pm on your last day.

Any insight on the parking in LAS? Seems like it would be a pretty awful experience with non covered and having to walk and shuttle to get to work everyday in the 100+ degree temp. Thanks for the info. Just trying to weigh all factors on daily life of bases.

Has there been any news yet regarding upgrades? I appreciate all of the warnings regarding commuting, living in base, and planning to live in Podunk, BFE, but if Allegiant is hiring 200 over the next several months, then there should be some upgrades on the horizon as well that will generate some movement, right?
